VW Golf mk1 GTI ''rabbit''iceracer1 03-06-2007, 02:10 PM This wil be my new project. A very old Mk1 GTI RABBIT from Revell/Esci. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_002~2.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_003~1.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_004~1.jpg Very nice this one got an engine :) http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_005~0.jpg Also the decals are really nice after more than 25 years :D http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_006~1.jpg and the body: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_007~1.jpg I also searched for nice wheels. I came up with these: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_008~0.jpg and a dryfit http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_009~1.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/doos_010~0.jpg I haven't any plans yet but I think I'll paint it silver or white with gold wheel spokes. Like this: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/golf_11.JPG http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/golf_12.JPG http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/golf_13.JPG http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/golf_14.JPG Kris. Zonda 03-06-2007, 02:42 PM The pearl white will look good with gold rims. Goodluck! rsxse240 03-06-2007, 10:06 PM I am quite fond of the bbs meshies. they give it a real German classy look. the TV-R rims are to "JDM YO!" they don't look bad, but I just don't think they fit the car. I like the white paint, you could paint the wheel centers to match the body. you can only get away with this on white or black, maybe silver. freakmech 03-07-2007, 12:20 AM RS's will look more correct on the car in my opinion, though i would search for some deeper dished meshes for this build:2cents: , at least for the rears. that is if your looking for the more modern MkI style. All the same im envious as im a MkIV owner and only have a II through IV kit, no MkI yet. PS, is this build for Vortex Build Off by chance? Looking forward to progress! iceracer1 03-07-2007, 04:42 PM RS's will look more correct on the car in my opinion, though i would search for some deeper dished meshes for this build:2cents: , at least for the rears. that is if your looking for the more modern MkI style. All the same im envious as im a MkIV owner and only have a II through IV kit, no MkI yet. PS, is this build for Vortex Build Off by chance? Looking forward to progress! The vortex build is only for mk2's i thougt??? Today cleaned the holes for the wipers and removed the moldinglines. After that I primed it :) http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/STRAK_001~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/STRAK_002~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/STRAK_003~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/STRAK_004~0.jpg I'll use a single wiper. Kris. momocorrado 03-07-2007, 04:52 PM looks great so far where did you get a revell mk1 kit there very rare http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/STRAK_003~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/STRAK_004~0.jpg I'll use a single wiper. Kris.[/quote] iceracer1 03-07-2007, 04:58 PM picked him up on www.marktplaats.nl (dutch site) Paid total 19 euro's including 6,20 euro sending :D Kris. momocorrado 03-07-2007, 05:23 PM do they ship to the us deedlit 03-08-2007, 11:10 AM I also have this kit, I'll follow your thread, this way I'll probably avoid some mistakes. Looks good so far, in all 4 Dubmodders you propose, I'd go with white paint and BBS rims. That's THE perfect match  bhop73 03-08-2007, 12:01 PM It's just my opinion, but those TV-R's don't fit that car at all.. i'd definitely use the BBS rims. Other than that, the white with gold BBS would be pretty sweet. iceracer1 03-11-2007, 04:32 PM Thanks! Yesterday I painted the spokes gold and painted the body in PureWhite (tamiya) http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/kleur_001~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/kleur_002~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/kleur_003~0.jpg I only forgot to paint the hood :-P  But I also must paint the enginecompartment so it's not a big problem. Hope you like it! Kris. CeeElle 03-11-2007, 08:16 PM i love it. looks great so far. MK1 golfs are sweet cars. CeeElle 03-11-2007, 08:18 PM i love it. mk1 golfs are great little cars. energon 03-11-2007, 08:30 PM If you could find some less chunky tires I think it would look GREAT. Nice choice of wheels, the tires just look oversized for the car. I like these cars, this should turn out great! iceracer1 03-28-2007, 04:22 PM The tyres are not to big in my opinion :) This is more oldskool. In real life you also see tyres like these on MK1's. Allright I worked a bit farther on this one. I wanted to add the striping decals but after more than 20 years the decals were very crappy when I placed them in the water. So I had to paint it by hand :) I think it looks very nice. Just a few small places that needs some work but that will be allright. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/striping_001.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/striping_002.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/striping_003.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/striping_004.jpg Kris. KevHw 03-29-2007, 12:09 AM Looks amazing...great job on it so far! I would've added a pearl clear on top of the white but looks great as is. Can't wait to see the engine, engine bay and your plans for the interior. iceracer1 04-08-2007, 01:39 PM Yes I got progress but not something you like I think.... first I painted the strips in black on both sides. I also painted the grille. First I covered it with BMF and painted it black and than I removed the paint untill the chrome came back. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/schade_001.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/schade_002.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/schade_003.jpg And than it goes wrong :S  I removed the tamiya tape and the paint sticked to the tape :S http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/schade_004.jpg So I decided to paint the whole body again :( Kris. Lownslow 04-08-2007, 01:47 PM those are some big tires why not use slot car tires to get the low pro look you want http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/Lownslow302/sirrocco.jpg MidMazar 04-08-2007, 10:25 PM oh no, maybe you didn't wait long enough for the paint to cure? It happens to the best of us. Gotta tell u, bmf and paint on the grill is awesome, nice technique. Keep us posted and hopefully u get it repainted soon! rsxse240 04-09-2007, 12:14 AM I would SO TOTALLY left that peeling paint just like that, and weathered it up a bit, maybe painted the fender and hatch primer, or weathered green or something to make it look like an in progress ride. Is this a readily available kit? if so where might I find one. ebay usually has some of the fujimi kits, but I like the fact that this one has an engine. iceracer1 04-09-2007, 11:20 AM I would SO TOTALLY left that peeling paint just like that, and weathered it up a bit, maybe painted the fender and hatch primer, or weathered green or something to make it look like an in progress ride. Is this a readily available kit? if so where might I find one. ebay usually has some of the fujimi kits, but I like the fact that this one has an engine. No it will be a show 'n shine gti :) But this kit is very rare... haven't seen this one before and it's a very old kit also And those tires maybe to big but for the last time.....: This is more oldskool and I like it. I have no other flat tyres and also have no slotcars or something so I will use this wheels and tyres.... Kris. Rusrom 04-09-2007, 04:11 PM Hm... looks like RatLook ))) iceracer1 04-17-2007, 04:41 PM Not done much the last time but it's ready for some new paint. I sanded the bad surfaces etc. I also received my order yesterday from Japan :) This is one of the things I ordered: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/velgies_001~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/velgies_002~0.jpg Very oldskool for Japanese cars but also very german look :) So I fitted it under the rabbit and I love these combination :) http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/velgies_003~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/velgies_004~0.jpg Kris. energon 04-18-2007, 12:03 AM LOVE the stretchwalls on there!!!! They suit the car very nicely!! I love these wheel and tire sets, it's just hard to find cars they fit b/c they're so small. iceracer1 04-26-2007, 01:03 PM The body was ready for some paint so I sprayed it in primer yesterday. This week it wil be painted again in Racing White. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/primer_001~1.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/primer_002~1.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/primer_003~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/primer_004~0.jpg Kris. MR2_Lancer 04-26-2007, 01:21 PM Lovin the wheels. Im glad you chose them. That mesh look is SO over used, its not even funny. Hopefully the paint cooperates this time. ;) voyageur 04-26-2007, 03:04 PM I totally agree with your choice of wheels...looks really good. Golf I needs small rims IMO. Keep it up! iceracer1 05-01-2007, 01:07 PM I painted the body a few days ago. Also clearcoated the body with 2 layers of TS-13. After I applied the black stripes I spray some more clear on it. This paintjob is also smooth and will be polished next week. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/lak_001~1.jpg Hope to get 'em as low as this: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/lak_002~1.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/lak_003~1.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/lak_004~1.jpg Kris. energon 05-01-2007, 04:55 PM This is gonna be SOOOOOO nice! I almost want a real one! deedlit 05-02-2007, 02:21 PM Hmm, looks nicer each time I look at it, can't wait to see it finished. I wasn't too sure about the rims but now, I have to say that they suit it very well. iceracer1 05-21-2007, 02:22 PM New update :) I started on the engine. It looks quite simple and almost exactly like Revell's MK2 gti. First the original gearbox and axles. The gearbox looks better than the mk2 but the axles from the mk2 looks better than this :) So this was the original part: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_001~0.jpg this is the axle from the mk2: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_002~0.jpg And fitted perfect :) http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_003~0.jpg I had the idea to make some Weber carburators with open velocity's so this manifold will be removed http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_004~0.jpg In my partsbox I found something that looks like carburators from a Dodge Superbee engine: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_005~0.jpg For the velocity's I ordered some at Hiroboy http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_006~0.jpg and a dryfit: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_007~0.jpg and now in the enginecompartment: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_008~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_009~0.jpg I also made a new Duckbill :) The original was a small one and I screwed it so I made a new large duckbill: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_010~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_011.jpg and of course a dryfitt from the whole MK1 :D http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_012.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_013.jpg Hope you like it.... Kris. energon 05-21-2007, 06:05 PM Looking great!!! ITBs FTW! The more I see this thing the more I love it! iceracer1 06-07-2007, 01:04 PM last week I spent some time to move on with the mk1 First I wanted to complete the engine. I made some sparkplugs and replaced the coolinghose for a real one. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_014.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_015.jpg After that I did some bodywork. First I want to paint the black stripes on the door. This time it's even better than last time and it's like an decal :) I love the result. I also added BMF on the fuelcap, rooftrim, and doortrims. I think it looks nice with the chrome trim around the grille  http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_016.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_017.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_018.jpg It's like a crime when I leave the rabbit badge away so this one is also placed. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_019.jpg After this I sprayed two layers of TS-13 on it. I also painted the lights. These small lights are very rare in real life and most vw lovers (like me) keep them original. So do I. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_020.jpg Here's a dryfit with the engine :) Looks very nice in my opinion. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_021.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_022.jpg And a final picture: http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_023.jpg This week I'll polish the body so I can paint the windowtrims and add the details on it. Kris. deedlit 06-07-2007, 01:53 PM The more I look at it, the more I love it :bigthumb: momocorrado 06-07-2007, 04:02 PM WOW! energon 06-07-2007, 07:59 PM I LOVE this thing!!!! Get it done so we can see the finished produt!!! gtidude 06-08-2007, 03:15 AM absolutely stunning! you need to get a maisto box for it, hehehehe hey wont you sell me that intake you removed? please Zonda 06-09-2007, 08:30 PM Loving it! Honoturtle 06-11-2007, 03:24 AM iceracer1 06-11-2007, 07:00 AM not my taste :D Exterior looks like nothing I think. This car is just build for speed but doesn't have the looks.... I like the german clean and original style. Kris. iceracer1 06-22-2007, 11:09 AM Spent some time on this project yesterday so here's a new update. First I polished the body (it's dirty on the pics now) After that I installed the rear en headlight glasses. Also made a new duckbill (frontlip) which is a bit smaller. And I painted the windowtrims. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_001~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_002~0.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_003~0.jpg I also started the interior. I kept is simple and painted it semigloss black and used black interiorflocking. Also 2 6x9'' speakers were used. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_004~0.jpg After some modifications, the axles from the Mk2 gti fitted on the mk1 :) I also put the whole engine into the golf. I masked the enginecompartment so I could paint the chassis. After removing the maskingtape the white paint felt of :S So I decided to paint the room in flat black. http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_005~0.jpg And a overall view of course :D http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_006.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_007.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_008.jpg http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/raamrubber_009.jpg now I'll make new small bumpers because the bumpers from the kit are not nice. I also will lower the suspension to reach the rideheight shown on the pics above, and do some wheatering on the chassis. Kris. deedlit 06-22-2007, 01:00 PM Nice ride height  The end is near, I'm very impatient to see it done ;) Fabbri_Guy 06-26-2007, 04:22 PM whats the width of those tires? They look like 285's or 275's? Nice build so far, Keep it up!!! messe 06-26-2007, 05:11 PM I love the ride height. A note though... the front lip should be angled a bit. Other than that it looks promising. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
