Project: Volvo XC90 – GATEBIL Taxi 2007

Gatebil repeats last years success: With room for 3 passengers, giving you the ride of your life, more than 800 bhp, one of Europe’s most extreme streetcars!

What is Gatebil?

Gatebil AS organizes Scandinavia’s largest car festivals, with a main goal of giving the streetcar environment in Norway a place to unleash their interest of fast cars and good company! The company has 3 – 4 festivals a year, including the publication of DVD movies, ( and a magazine through Se & Hør publishing. We continue to plan ahead with more events, as well as starting up in Sweden to meet the different environments in their own surroundings. The events are run as a festival with a lot of action, concerts, competitions, the Norwegian championship in “Breisladd” and Gatebil of the year.
In 2006 Gatebil built a car which became the most popular project this decade! Leaving all common sense behind we built a Gatebil taxi!

What: With the starting point of a brand new BMW 3-series (!) we made a 4 seated race taxi with bucket seats, crash cage, audiovisual equipment, and an engine with over 650 bhp!
Why: The Gatebil taxi would give selected spectators, sponsors and our cooperating partners a chance to take part in this unique experience. See the film of the car here: (

Gatebil taxi 2007
We wish to repeat the success in 2007, but it definitely won’t be less extreme! This year’s taxi will be a Volvo XC90 which will be built together with Volvo and Mantorp Park. The layout is the same as last year’s taxi, but with a more powerful engine, and also more focus on the audio visual, and the exposure around the car as well as the concept itself!
Gatebil taxi has become a trademark, which many people associate with. The main thought behind the idea is to entertain the audience. Both the passengers in the car and our audience!

Media 2007
The car is being built by students at Strømmen High school’s mechanic class. It will be a highly profiled project on our websites, and will also be filmed so that it will be on the Gatebil Movie. People will here be able to follow the project step by step. Gatebil Magazine will also publish several articles on the car.
CHECK OUT ( from the 1st of March to see updates on this extreme project! Picture updates will also come on this thread!

Update on other parts: The taxi has the most extreme cage, made specially by Safemotorsport so that passengers can move freely in and out. The number of points on the cage isn't finalised since it isn't 100% finished.

Todays update is a short introduction of the taxi's drivers this year!

First out is Stian Hafsengen who is known to most "car people" in Norway. He used to own a WRC Escort and has won our "breisladd" competition twice! Few poeple drive like Stian, he definatley knows how to give people the ride of their lives!

Next is Anders Ringstad, also quite a mad man behind the wheel. Anders is the one responsible for most of the taxi build. He has a love for V8's and has years of experience from racing.

Both guys promise to drive so that the Sparco seats have to be dry cleaned MANY times! We cant wait!

The taxi gets new breaks!

The make is Wilwood and they are 330mm at the front and 300mm at the back!

After discussing the matter with Anders R., Leif has made a decision about which engine to use!

It is a 4 cylinder BMW engine from a E30 M3. The engine has 250 bhp and we are thinking about possibly adding a turbo.

Ehhh....Just kidding...

The choice is a brutal V8:
