installing a new PCMmarktruck 02-27-2007, 10:11 PM If you replace the PCM with a new unit, will it need to be programed before it will work? corning_d3 02-27-2007, 11:32 PM Yes. The VIN needs to be programmed into the PCM before it will function. The only way to do it is with a DRBIII or StarScan, depending on your application. These are only available at your dodge dealership. bringselpup 02-28-2007, 08:23 AM Maybe with a newer model year but absolutely not for my 93. corning_d3 02-28-2007, 11:01 PM True, I should've asked for year/make/model... wafrederick 03-01-2007, 08:40 PM The Vetronix scan tool will program the PCM also,1996 and up.Ther is one thing about Chrysler PCMs:Do not hook up jumper cables or a jumper box backwards. That is an easy way to smoke up a Chrysler PCM and ruin it.Here is Vtronix's website: www.vetronix.com marktruck 03-04-2007, 04:49 AM (Ther is one thing about Chrysler PCMs:biggrin:o not hook up jumper cables or a jumper box backwards. That is an easy way to smoke up a Chrysler PCM and ruin it.) That must be what happened,Just before it quit, My son helped Me jump off MY dump truck & I know it was momentarily hooked up backwards at the Jeep. Thanks , That info narrows it down a bit. Thanks, marktruck marktruck 03-30-2007, 09:48 PM I finaly deduced from info on this froum that My computer on My 98 JGC Blew after the cables were hooked up backwards while jumping of a ford L-9000 dump truck. The Dealer wanted $565.00 for a new computer +I would have to have it towed to the dealer@$100.00 +$127.00 to program it after its installed. thats with me installing the computer,total- $847.44 w/tax.Nothing wrong with that thats their price, however I found http://www.ecmking.com/ on the internet Who has a division that works on car computers a lot cheaper Cartronics Auto Parts 616 Bark Cove Owensboro,KY 42303 $280.00 + $15.00 UPS there & $15.00 UPS back total $310.00 came back programed all I did was plug in & go. It cranked right up.I'm so impressed with thier quaility & price I wanted to post here for others who need computer repair. marktruck msdz 03-31-2007, 02:07 PM That's good for a lot of people to know.
