Using parts from other GM carsCorndog Man 02-26-2007, 06:13 PM What parts can be shared between the Lumina, Buick, Pontiac and Oldsmobile? For example, I am looking for gray sunvisors that have the lighted mirrors on the drivers side. I have one on the passenger. I want to do some modifications on my 1999 LTZ. If I went and found a Buick "Lumina", I think they may have a lighted sunvisor. I bought a home link and I want to put in the drivers visor and it requires power. I figured if I also added a driver visor with a mirror and light, I could steal power from the mirror. I have an Avalanche and folks are always coming up with some pretty cool mods on the Av forums but I don't see many mods on the Lumina. Is there a cross reference manual between these GM makes anywhere? Thanks! Wouldn't it be easier to just use the power from the passenger side visor? Seriously, how often do you actually NEED the lights in there? That would save a lot of the hassle of finding another [lighted] visor, finding out how to make it work, etc. Corndog Man 02-27-2007, 06:41 PM Hey corndog! so let me get this straight, you're wanting to install a lighted mirror/visor from another vehicle to "steal" the power for a home link device? Since I am going to put a home link in the visor anyway, I figured do both. Its seems like it would be an easy mod assuming I can find out if a Buick, Olds, Ponitac has lighted grey driver side visors. I like to see mods where it looks factory but it really isn't. Once I figure it out, I will take some photos if anyone else wants to give it a shot. Speaking of Homelink. Anyone here actually seen the unit in a later model Lumina? If so, what does it look like and where did it mount? Headliner, visor? Thanks! I knew there was an interchange manual. I couldn't remeber the name. I did go on eBay last night and found gray visors for a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. My suspicion is many parts from a Lumina, Grand Prix, Cutlass and Regal will interchange. I did complare the photos to my Lumina and they look like they fit but seemed shaped slightly different. Corndog Yeah, there's a sh*tload of those manuals for many years on eBay, I should've mentioned that in my last post, because I too had gone looking on that site to see what was available. A lot of my experience/knowledge is on the older '70s & '80s GMs, and I can remember knowing the interchanges of the mid-sized cars like the Buick Regal, Pontiac Grand Prix, Olds Cutlass, Chevy Monte Carlo, and Malibu, and so on. Plus the full sized cars and all their interchanges. Seems GM either "got smart" or is trying to make it harder for the little guy to save some money by making less of their parts interchange between different GM vehicles nowadays. That's why those interchange manuals are so useful. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
