Heater core needs replacement!!

I have a 97 cheyenne c1500 5.7L. Heater started leakin antifreeze mix under glove box. Pretty sure the heater core went bad, but I've heard mixed reviews on how easy/hard it is to replace. Some say it is simple- just need to pull old core out and put new one in. Others say got pull whole dash apart and cost around 800 for mechanic. I was wondering if anyone knew which was the correct answer to this and is it feasible for ME (an idiot) to fix it. Meanwhile I just went ahead and bypassed the heater all together until I figure out what I'm gunna do. Thanks for any reply.

it's not impossible and not easy either. There are dash parts that need removal, but you should be able to do it in an afternoon. Just use the repair manual and you will be fine. You will need to buy a new core and may as well replace the blower while you are at it, if it's in bad shape. Good luck.

This is something you can do.
