On my 2000 Accord EX V6 My check engine light has come on. I went to Autozone for the free Cumputer diagnosis and had the light turned off and the computer cleared....but the light continues to come on. I've tried buying a new fuel cap and I always make sure it is tight. Autozone's computer says it has a "401" error and their book says that means I have some problem with my fuel system, air in the fuel system....not much details other than that.

Could anyone help or have any advice....I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Chris

yes, you are right.

How do you know if the 2000 accord ex v6 has a recall on it. According the honda site, there are no recalls at least for my vin number. Are there some 2000 accord ex v6's that have recalls and others that do not.

Boo,
I called America Honda and they said it isn't actually a "recall" It is though a free service as Honda_99 said, Amercia Honda said the egr valve service is a extended type waranty, good for 8 years or 80,000 miles which ever comes first.

Is it just carbon build up in the egr valve? Is that something I could clean out myself? If the check engine light is coming on because of the egr valve, is that just an emission type problem? Is it really something to be concerned about if I need to drive it now and don't have time to take it to the shop now?

I sure hope that solves the problem, thanks for the help guys.

P0401 is a trouble code for the egr valve. Yesthere is a recall(kinda), but it doesnt cover every car, go to your local honda dealer and have them run a vin inquiry on your car that will tel them if your covered under the 8year/80,000 mile coverage...

Thank You guys. This thread saved my about $500.00 to get my car and this problem resolved. I got my car into the dealership today with 78900 miles. Right under the 80.000 mark for the warranty.

Thanks so much for this thread. I got my EGR valve replaced at the dealership, no charge - but then they tried to sell me a $150 service to clean out the carbon deposits in my car. I wasn't sure if this was legit, so I held off.

Is this necessary? And if so, can I get it done cheaper elsewhere?

Thanks!

Oh by the way, I also found out that there is a warranty extension on the transmission on my 2000 accord v6 - 10 years/100,000 miles...just in case you were interested. :)

Hey sorry I cant reply to your first question mstina, but do you know any site that gives me the official warranty extension on the transimission, cause i have a 2000 accord v6 coupe and I've been having a few problems w/ my transmission too...if you could send me any sites that would be great! I actually found out about the transmission warranty extension from the Honda dealer service advisor when I called to see if there was a warranty extension on the EGR valve. If you give them your VIN, they can check if it applies to your car.

Also, I think that the US Dept of Transportation's National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration's website has information re: warranty extensions and recalls.

Hope that helps!!!
