Recent Rough Idle and Low RPM problem

I just got back from driving from San Luis Obispo, CA, to Camarillo, CA. I got a tune up about a month ago, and changed oil about last week to mobil 1 synthetic 10 30. Anyways, When I was almost back to Camarillo, I noticed that my car would bog in the 2k to 3.5k rpm range or when trying to accelerate, similar to if i was trying to take off at 1500 rpm or less. The condition got worse, and when I got off the freeway and was sitting at the light, the idle fluctuated from 500rpm to 750 rpm and was rough. Any ideas on what could cause this? it was running fine when i started the trip.

btw my car is a 97 eclipse gst with about 101k miles on it, all stock.

Mr. Blazer. Do you have any check engine lights on? Boost leak aside, I believe it is more of a spark issue with your hesitation problems. The bumpy idle very well could be a TPS/ISC 2g issue. It may need readjustment. You need to do a boost leak down test, then test the TPS via FVAQ.com

Try not to jack other peoples threads, if you have a problem, you should start your own.

Blazer, I agree with crunchy and scott, do a boost leak test and then check the sensor(s) situation.

Okay, will check. Is that something that could have happened while I was driving on the freeway? because it just started while i was on the 101.

and how does one perform a boost test? I got the car a month ago, and haven't had a turbocharged vehicle before

and no, I do not have any check engine lights on. Seems strange that the spark would be bad because I got the plugs replaced about a month or less ago.

Yes, it could happen at any time.

Thanks for the information. It's too late to get anything now, but I'll check it out tomorrow. I'll be back when I find out what's up.

mmmmkay... no boost leak. ran around town getting the stuff, because one hardware store has pvc cap but no band clamps, one auto shop has radiator hose but no valve stems. Checked the TPS/ISC and no problem. The spark plugs are fine as well. The car is currently undergoing diag. only at the mechanic, because i'm too busy to do it myself and it's only one hour of flat rate, and i'm gonna see what's wrong. Anybody want to guess what he's going to find?

Update: Verdict is I need Plug Wires and an injector service. The mechanic wants 300 bux. HaHa. Fortunately, I work at a dealership, and can do this for cost of parts. which comes out to... whatever the wires are. Any recommendations for wires?

Uhh...yeah, go to Autozone and get some regular aftermarket wires, they'll probably be 1/1000th of the cost of OEM. And "injector service", what the hell is that?

it's another way to say "waste of money." I changed the plug wires and dumped some dupont fuel injector cleaner into the tank. 60 bucks later, she runs like a champ. What i don't get is how the plug wires went to hell so quickly. It's like one minute they were fine, the next minute, crap.

Once there's a path of least resistance, it'll constantly take that path, so once it goes bad, it'll be that way forever. I bet you only had 1 wire that was bad, but it's not a big deal now.

Yeah probably, but they appeared to be original wires, so they were pretty old. Thanks for the help everybody.
