Alternator Question

Ok, I have a question. I'm still pretty new when it comes to everything under tha hood so I was wondering if I could put a new alternator off of a different car into mine or if each car needs a specific alternator. So basically my question is, are all alternators tha same? Thanks in advance.

While you can probably install an alternator from another vehicle with some modifications, it's probably going to be more trouble than it's worth. Wiring will most likely be different, same with the mounting brackets. If the alternators are made by the same company (Denso, Delco, etc), it might be a lot easier. Unless alternators for your car are difficult or impossible to get, I wouldn't bother trying to adapt an incorrect alternator to fit.
