WIP Subaru Legacy Touring Wagonvoyageur 02-15-2007, 08:27 AM Hi, this is my first WIP thread here, building the Hasegawa SUBARU LEGACY GT TOURING WAGON. http://images20.fotki.com/v369/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_000-vi.jpg Because I think it is a bit too bland to build OOB, I decided to have fun with it and lift it (4.8mm). I will also put some goodies on (more on that later). The Hasegawa chassis is nicely detailed and a good base to start. All the lift parts are made from evergreen styrene. I even managed to keep the steering poseable. Just in case you're wondering...I did not use reference pictures, therefore it might not be totally accurate. http://images20.fotki.com/v382/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_001-vi.jpg http://images20.fotki.com/v390/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_002-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_003-vi.jpg http://images20.fotki.com/v384/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_004-vi.jpg The exhaust had to be re-routed in order to clear the driveshaft. I used styrene rod bend to shape to replace the original pipe. Catalyst and muffler are the original parts. http://images20.fotki.com/v390/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_005-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_006-vi.jpg http://images14.fotki.com/v386/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_007-vi.jpg http://images14.fotki.com/v386/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_008-vi.jpg http://images14.fotki.com/v386/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_009-vi.jpg http://images14.fotki.com/v386/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_010-vi.jpg All the above was done in one night :screwy: Mock-up with the body shell in place. The struts are not in place yet as they are not finished. That's it for now, I'll post updates later today or tomorrow. Thanks for looking, please feel free to C&C. Cheers Sebastian PS: I suppose there was no OUTBACK model of this generation because i couldn't find pics. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong (blubaja?) Zonda 02-15-2007, 11:46 AM Nice job on the ride height. The Outback version didn't come out until the 94/95 model year. Keep the progress coming. :icon16: sportracer02 02-15-2007, 12:45 PM Hi Sebastian, nice idea to lift it up. Will you use the kit-wheels? voyageur 02-15-2007, 01:01 PM Hi Micha, no - I'm not going to use the kit wheels >> it'll have some nice ones suitable for a good "offroadish" look. You'll see it soon ;-) Greetz SEB OrangeR 02-15-2007, 03:42 PM NIce modifications, can't wait to see what else you have in mind for this build. blubaja 02-15-2007, 06:20 PM I will love this no doubt! Good luck on it. SteveK2003 02-15-2007, 06:37 PM PS: I suppose there was no OUTBACK model of this generation because i couldn't find pics. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong The Outback was first available with the 1996 model year. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2b/1st-Subaru-Outback-Wagon.jpg/800px-1st-Subaru-Outback-Wagon.jpg voyageur 02-16-2007, 11:03 AM Hi guys, thank you for the encouraging words. A small update: I sprayed the floorpan black with the (unfortunately grabbed) gloss black can :banghead: I should have painted it flat black. Too late now, but I decided to make it dirty beforehand ...so it doesn't really matter :uhoh: This is the first time I used the Tamiya Weatherig Master (Set B). It is easy to handle and has a very realistic effect. But...I think the supplied "sponge" will not last very long :frown: Does anyone know of a substitute that works? I tried Q-tips, but to no avail... On to the pics http://images21.fotki.com/v516/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_011-vi.jpg Rear axle...still missing a few parts. Note the custom made heat shield for the new exhaust routing. http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_012-vi.jpg Heatshield made from cigarette pack foil with double-sided phototape. http://images21.fotki.com/v516/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_013-vi.jpg The "engine" may look too clean, but it'll be covered by a scratchbuild skid plate. http://images20.fotki.com/v390/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_014-vi.jpg Lifted rear axle detail. http://images20.fotki.com/v385/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_015-vi.jpg Here you can see how the parts look before weathering. voyageur 02-17-2007, 10:56 AM Allright, The chassis is almost finished. I weathered and added the missing parts. http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_016-vi.jpg Parts before weathering. http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_017-vi.jpg http://images21.fotki.com/v515/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_018-vi.jpg Parts weathered and installed. http://images21.fotki.com/v515/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_019-vi.jpg http://images20.fotki.com/v384/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_020-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_021-vi.jpg Sneak Preview of the scratchbuilt skidplate. Thanks for watching, comments? Cheers Sebastian DasWiesel 02-17-2007, 11:36 AM Fantastic! How could i miss this? The weathering looks great and the lifted suspension, too of course! To find matching wheels will be a bit difficult, i think. Risko 02-17-2007, 11:44 AM The dirt looks very nice! Great job! :sunglasse auw12 02-17-2007, 11:45 AM I guess I'm looking at a piece of real chassis...That's fantastic:eek: freakray 02-17-2007, 11:49 AM I like what I see, you're doing something nice and original and along the lines of what I see real Subaru owners doing in the owner's club I belong to :) Keep the updates coming. NOMADGAMER 02-17-2007, 03:29 PM lets see the wheels/tires, or at least a mockup chassis picture, so I can see how "lifted" it really is... Jay! 02-17-2007, 04:31 PM This is a very cool project! For as obnoxious as Hasegawa's zillion-part suspension can be, your 5" lift is a very interesting direction to try! I'm already curious what we'll see inside the back hatch and on the roof rack! ;) Bull bar up front? And some off-road lights, why not?! cyberkid 02-17-2007, 09:24 PM http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_021-vi.jpg Nice work so far. I'm wondering who makes the styrene you made the skidplate from? steve blubaja 02-17-2007, 11:19 PM LHS has some Evergreen sheets like that. Wow dude.!!!!! That skid plate reminds me of my 1:1 http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/3162/slippy2fb8.jpg voyageur 02-18-2007, 12:26 PM Hi guys, time for another update. The diamond plate sheet is from Plastruct, if I recall correctly. And yes...it will have some goodies: - bull bar with auxiliary lights - skid plate - scratch built fender flares (left side completed, right side is WIP) - scratch built cover for the rear side windows (from evergreen sheet) - Thule roofbox (from Fujimi Accessory Parts Set) - ...and a few things that I'll keep secret for a while :naughty: Wheels are Fujimi OZ Futura with tires from Tamiya Honda S-MX LowDown Enjoy the pics :sunglasse http://images20.fotki.com/v390/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_022-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_023-vi.jpg http://images21.fotki.com/v515/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_024-vi.jpg Ride height :naughty: http://images22.fotki.com/v519/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_025-vi.jpg http://images16.fotki.com/v273/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_026-vi.jpg http://images21.fotki.com/v517/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_027-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_028-vi.jpg Auxiliary lights are still on the sprue to make painting easier http://images21.fotki.com/v516/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_029-vi.jpg The front wheels are sticking out too much, I will correct that later :p http://images15.fotki.com/v269/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_030-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_031-vi.jpg Note how the skid plate wraps around the lower bull bar bracket All for now. Thanks for watching and keep C&C coming :uhoh: Cheers from Germany SEB sportracer02 02-18-2007, 12:52 PM Hi Sebastian, looks good so far, bull bar gives a tough look to the front. I would sand the lower edges of the fender flares to give more space to the wheels, when they move into the fenders. Closing the rear windows is a matter of taste, why not just cover the windows in that area with the colour of the body?? voyageur 02-18-2007, 01:04 PM Hi Sebastian, looks good so far, bull bar gives a tough look to the front. I would sand the lower edges of the fender flares to give more space to the wheels, when they move into the fenders. Closing the rear windows is a matter of taste, why not just cover the windows in that area with the colour of the body?? Hi, The lower edges of the fender flares will be sanded. The covers on the rear windows will be painted body color :grinyes: sportracer02 02-18-2007, 01:53 PM Great  !!! ... now I´m waiting for more to come  voyageur 02-18-2007, 07:30 PM I decided that the Legacy needs a winch :screwy: ...so I built one. It is made from leftover styrene bits and pieces. I apologize for the blurry pics, but I worked on it at night, taking pics in the process (with bad lighting). http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_032-vi.jpg First I cut off the center part of the bumper. The license plate is going to be relocated... http://images21.fotki.com/v517/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_033-vi.jpg Then I added a strip of styrene for support. http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_034-vi.jpg The base. The winch will not be fully detailed, only the part you'll see. http://images20.fotki.com/v390/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_035-vi.jpg http://images21.fotki.com/v515/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_036-vi.jpg http://images21.fotki.com/v516/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_037-vi.jpg The "finished" winch. I will sand it tomorrow. Does anyone know of a good hook to add? I'm going to post a daylight pic tomorrow with the bull bar mounted. Thanks SEB voyageur 02-22-2007, 12:31 PM Allright, as promised, here are a few daylight pictures of the winch and the completed bull bar, enjoy! Please note that the bull bar is not attached. That's why it's not really centered and straight. http://images21.fotki.com/v577/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_038-vi.jpg http://images21.fotki.com/v516/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_039-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_040-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_041-vi.jpg Please leave C&C Cheers SEB Jaymes 02-23-2007, 04:14 AM looking great so far. i think wheels with more meat would be more suitable, and it'd look a lot better w/ the wheels tucked flush w/ the body AllAlone.Gz 02-23-2007, 05:31 AM Wow! Like your weathering! Ha! Ciggarete package foil? Should of thought of that, I throw em away all the time! Who knew I could use it for my kits? Imma start saving the pieces! Your scratchbuilding owns too! voyageur 02-23-2007, 12:35 PM Thanks guys, looking great so far. i think wheels with more meat would be more suitable, and it'd look a lot better w/ the wheels tucked flush w/ the body The wheels will be modded to fit the fender flares...but later in the process  rallymaster 02-23-2007, 02:42 PM hello, You did a great weathering work under the chassis ! if you intend to give same effect to the body, I only can :worshippy your winch seems promissing, too. I only scratch some in 1/43rd scale at the moment, but never thought to build them like you're building yours (with the two rolling bars). I'll follow this build closely ! Phil voyageur 02-24-2007, 11:19 AM I added a snorkel to the Legacy....it is made from styrene rod bent to shape and the tip of a left-over UNIMOG snorkel. http://images22.fotki.com/v519/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_049-vi.jpg http://images18.fotki.com/v375/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_050-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v520/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_051-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v518/photos/1/1097084/4612207/IMG_052-vi.jpg Note that the fender flare is not shaped yet! Thanks for watching SEB Cheif xB 02-24-2007, 04:12 PM I really like where this is going...my kind of build!:) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
