HELP!!!!!
I just bought a 93 limited with the 5.2 a few days ago. 90,000 miles, all maintenance records with no major problems. It is a solid rig. Unfortuanely, in the test drive I never got it up to highway speeds for very long.

Regardless, it runs great except for one glitch. No matter what I do, I can't get it to shift in to overdrive. I have read just about every post on here concerning OD problems. None match my problem.

The tranny runs excellent. No hesitation between shifts, good down shifts, no slipping, it is solid. But, no matter what I do, it will not go into OD. I have felt a slight hesitation at highway speed when I depress and repress the OD button, the tach jumps for a bit then goes back to where it was (roughly 3000 rpm at 65mph or so.) This whole hesitation takes less than a second.

The button lights when I supposedly turn it off so I don't believe it is the switch.

I get no code at the OD switch/button at all when I flash the ignition 3 times, although the main control module on the dash flashes good 55's.

It is no better or worse when the tranny is warm. The fluid looks good, no foam, good color and no smell. I am positive this is an electrical problem but since I get no code flash, I don't know where to start. I imagine there is a solinoid that engages the shift and I figure that might be the problem but I don't know enough about chrysler transmissions to start poking around to much.

I have heard lately how engine temp may effect tranny op. My engine temp does not budge over 175/180. Tranny fluid is warm to the touch, but not hot. Could that effect the OD shift?

I have a 94 GC with 5.2l engine. I have the same problem with the trany not shifting/holding OD at 180,000 miles. But my problem was temp related. It would shift in OD when cold, but would not hold OD after it warmed up. With help of a local mechanic we hooked up a scanner and saw the computer was closing the OD solenoid in the trany but no action from the trany…. Talked to a trany expert and they said the trany was just warn-out and need a overhaul. At 180,000 I have the trany overhauled. (~$2500). I am now at 288,000 miles and still going strong.

Hope this helps

Well, 2000 miles later she runs like a bat out of hell. Except, still no OD. I am close to taking it to a (yuck) shop. Anybody have any other ideas on what to look for except a tranny rebuild?
