99 Mountaineer PCV valve location

I've replaced dozens of PCV's but this one's got me stumped - The Haynes manual says the '99 5.0L V8 PCV valve is located at the back of the intake manifold (not on the top of the valve cover as expected). I've been all over the back of the engine with a light and mirror with no luck.

Can someone give more of a clue as to where it is, please?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

I took a look at my 2000 Mountaineer with the 5.0L, but didn't notice one on there. However, the service manual for my 2000 states the PCV is a closed system and implies that there is not a PCV valve as we're used to. On the V8 Lincoln LS there is no PCV valve, so maybe our 5.0L don't have one either.

Does your Explorer have the vacuum diagram on the emission label under the hood? If so, take a peek at the diagram and see if it shows a PCV valve. My Mountaineer has had some front body work, so my emissions label is no longer there.
