Turn the key to Acc and what do you get? Clicking in the dash.

This post is more informational (To help someone else) than a question.

My '02 silverado developed an interesting situation after one of the heaviest rains we've had in San Diego in a while..

I jumped in to go to work; put the key in and turned it. Started solenoid just clicked. Dead battery I think. Doors chimed, dome light on security blinking in the DIC. Jump the truck; drive to work.

After work; try to start it.. dead battery again. Crap. I turn the key to acc after trying to start it; and I hear a rapid click click click almost sounding like 2 wires electrically arcing. Oh crap!

No fuses blown; but every time I turn to acc I hear the same thing. Popped the hood; did it again. DEFINITELY coming from the dash. I think it's been wet; maybe something is still wet.

Next morning I go for a crapshoot and install a new battery. Clicking went away..

It's been in the 20's and 30's here lately and I figured my battery was just gone. It had enough juice for the dome light but the clicking must have been from a relay in the dash and the battery didn't have enough juice to keep it open or closed.

So; if you hear something strange..It might not be a short. :)

It just seems weird that the battery chose the night it did to die. It has been a LOT colder in recent weeks; but it chose a warm and rainy night to finally die; leading me to think it was something other than what it was.

Go figure.
