The rear brakes that is which is drum brackes. Well after that for about 2 or 3 weeks it was okay then it went back to the same thing. The rear brakes will lock up and make the car skid in the back when coming to a stop and when you let up of the brake u can here da brakes in the rear drag a little. What could cause this.( A bad wheel cylinder, rear shocks gone, what could cause it please help.) d1nonlyjv43 02-01-2007, 12:19 AM Somebody please give me some answers to this problem thanks Jmrec100 02-01-2007, 01:52 AM Check your drums. I had a problem with my rear brakes a while ago. I replaced the shoes, adjusted them, But they were dragging. When I hit the brakes, I heard a clunking sound. After numerous trys and I changed the shoes again, I found the drum itself was out of round. May not be your problem but something to check. Ryan066 02-07-2007, 11:09 AM i dunno if this is normal but i see it on a Bunch of cavaliers... seems to be when moisture builds up in the drums,, like a cold day then u bring it in a hot shop and take it out and it will do it.. ive see it with cavaliers that have un adjusted brakes and adjusted up good brakes. it will go away once they are heated up tho alan &marge pepper 02-07-2007, 12:11 PM this dose not just happen to cavaliers! what happens is the drum wears and brake shoe dust lays in the drum and when the dust gets damp it causes the shoe to lock up the wheel aggressively. until it drys out. you have to set the brakes up to stop this. what happen is when the drum wears a lip forum on the outter part of the drum and the dust can not get out. what i do is grind this lip off and i have no more problem until it builds up again in a year or less. ps your self adjusters are not working to keep your brake shoes set up.. pyro4329 02-09-2007, 12:16 AM ps your self adjusters are not working to keep your brake shoes set up.. I think that says it right there. muff34 02-09-2007, 12:33 PM depending on how far you want to go with this I`d get some brake cleaner and spray the entire area to get rid of previously mentioned dust. Or you colud strip everything down and clean everything and lube brake shoe contact points . also take adjusters apart ,clean and lube them. also do the drum lip removal as previously mentioned. Also one other thing if one of the wheel cylinders has previously leaked and has contaminated the brakes shoes ,the shoes shoes should be replaced as this can cause the lock up problem as well. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
