Battery hold down bolts/bracket?DanMan7 01-27-2007, 08:42 PM Hey all. My car's missing the j-bolts and bracket that hold the battery down. Anyone have any extras laying around in good shape I could have? I just need the two j-bolts and top bracket to hold the battery in place. Or if you know where I could find them let me know! Thanks! DOCTORBILL 01-27-2007, 09:48 PM Unless you like driving in the Baja 500 or on gravel roads in Montana, I have found that those black rubber "Bungee Cords" work quite well as Battery Hold Downs. And it does not require tools to unhook it, either! I had a car where the clamp had gotten eaten away with acid and used a Bungee Cord as a temporary hold down. Rubber doesn't care about acid, either. It became permanent! If your hood locks, no one can steal your battery. If it doesn't lock - May God Help You..... Stolen Battery, Sugar or sand in the oil... Happened to my wife in a downtown Spokane parking garage many years ago before I met her........Sugared the oil. Destroyed the engine. DoctorBill DanMan7 01-27-2007, 11:23 PM Yeah I have a bungee cord holding down the battery right now, but it doesn't look very attractive, lol. I still would like to find the bolts/bracket. :) DOCTORBILL 01-27-2007, 11:46 PM Aaaah ! Attractive.... That's a whole different thing. How about a red Bungee Cord, then? I believe you can buy "generic" battery hold down brackets at Schuck's, NAPA, K-Mart or any store with automotive parts for a few bucks. You have to trim the hooked bolts that hold the battery down. Some are plastic and some are all metal. DoctorBill DanMan7 01-28-2007, 12:26 AM Yeah I've seen them...I'll check them out...they'll probably work. I buy all my stuff from Kragens, lol. They're just so readily accessible...and it's awesome you can see what stores have what in stock, and order online, and pickup in an hour. There's a Kragen Auto Parts a block from where I work so it's on the way home. mostly_water 01-28-2007, 01:21 PM bungee cord here too, the car came that way - although the battery hold-down apparatus was found in the hatchback under the spare tire a couple days later. Turned out to be that strange rattle we couldn't find the first day. It looked too complicated, rusted and ugly to mess with so it was tossed out, no regrets. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
