Whats up everyone,

Im trying to settle an argument so I'd like to ask a question to all of you.

Would you respect Hyundai anymore if you found out that they were associated with a major racing series (Indy Racing League, Champ Car, NASCAR)?

I swear Im not a PR guy workin for Hyundai or any racing series...I just really want to know what people think about this.

All responses are appreciated!

getting in a racing series wouldnt do anything for me. If they made RWD tib with like 300 hp, then I would consider getting one.

Beacuse the Hyundai's that come to the U.S. are crap so people are used to crappy cars and pigeon hole them as such.
Hyundai has been around in South America for ever and the shit they do to those cars is amazing. The WRC car is freaking amazing. I agree that Hyundai's in the U.S. are a sad sad bunch of slow POSes BUT they make some wicked rides we never get to see.

Which is true with most imported cars, we generally get bottom of the barrel cars, while other countries get the good stuff. Such as most Asia/Australia and Europe getting the Skyline. And we get the... Altima.

Um, there is very little Hyundai could do with their current production line that would earn my respect...if you want to be 100% honest.

or even just use the turbo 2.0 from the WRC elantra, detune it a bit, and stick it in a special edition tiburon. 250hp or so with FWD would make hyundai a good bit of money.

Correction:

Hyundai WAS in the WRC and never did well at all, the ran a specially produced Accent coupe which was rebuilt with AWD and was engineered by MSD in the UK before a financial dispute ended the relationship and Hyundai's presence in the WRC.

There is no such thing as a WRC Elantra.

6th in the WRC in 2000
6th in the WRC in 2001
4th in the WRC in 2002 (they did beat Mitsu this year but the Evo VII was never competitive)
6th in the WRC in 2003

Those are the years Hyundai was in the WRC, they may have spent time ahead of some major teams early in any season, but by the 4th round every year they were back in their favorite spot.

well, to be fair, the peugeot and citreon cars aren't exactly mildly modified versions of the road cars either.
I think that considering their budget compared to peugeot/citreon, hyundai did pretty well.

Hyundai only actually competed against a works Citroen team in 2003, prior to that Citroen weren't in the WRC with a works team. PSA did have the Peugeot team active at that point and for the years that Hyundai competed, Peugeot did win all the manufacturers championships with the exception of 2003.

citreon were only in after 2003?
as late as that?
when were the fwd xsara's running?
I recall them trouncing everyone and that was including the peugeot 206.
Hmm.... perhaps this was the one year when they were all in.

or it could just be that i have failed to realise that 2003 was actually 4 years ago.....
Did i imagine it or am i getting my small teams mixed up but wasn't there a red/green hyundai being run by a private team sometime before?
