Jeep vs. Firebird w/ mods part IIjeepgclwj 01-24-2007, 04:47 PM I was just sitting here a little bit ago kinda relaxing after work when I heard my nemesis crank up the old Firebird. This car of his doesn't sound all that bad either not ricey by no means. Anyway, being me I jump up and go looking for the car keys because I wanted to get in my car real fast so he wouldnt think I was race stalking or anything. I get my garage door shut just as he's about to pass. He sees me backing out and stops to let me go first. Fun time is about to begin. We take the same route as before with me in front like in Part I. We get going about 35 and go. I was ahead about 2 cars to start with and I dont think I pulled but maybe one more car. We take it up to 105 and I slowed it down. We turned right on the next road and lined up at 20mph. We go and are dead even till about 40 were I started to pull about 3/4 car length. I didnt have my HUD on for some stupid reason and at the speed I was accelerating to I didnt want to look down at the speedo. I keep the 3/4 length on him till from what he said was 120 and all of a sudden it was like my car hit a wall. He pulled really hard at that point which I shut down. He owned me from about 115 up. I mean I think he would have put lengths on if we kept going. We pulled over and I congradulated him on a really good running car. This is were he told me we took it up to 120. He said his car was about topped out at that speed and I told him I had plenty of rpm's left. I guess we should have taken to 140 and maybe I would of made up some ground on him. I think my regulator is 128mph. I was very shocked and impressed with his car. I now have to start modding because this is now going to be a pissing contest.... VR43000GT 01-24-2007, 04:56 PM Let's not get to into depth about the race  Hmmmm you seem to have edited you post instead of where it went : "I was just sitting here a little bit ago kinda relaxing after work when I heard my nemesis crank up the old Firebird. So now I have to edit my post and say, "good race" less I be beaten with e-slaps from fellow AF members. :p TorchedStealth 01-24-2007, 04:56 PM Nice race, now you know both of your vehicles can beat him:iceslolan jeepgclwj 01-24-2007, 05:00 PM I MADE A MISTAKE IN THE TITLE. I RACED HIM IN MY GTP...Sorry guys. I wouldnt even bother running him in my Jeep. Unless I am light to light with him I cant do anything. I cant believe he pulled me but he did and I didnt let off. sweet races.... 2000LS1Z28 01-24-2007, 06:27 PM Good loss. Modify the GTP, don't bother with the Grand Cherokee. You can get that GTP in the 12's with just a little over $2K under the hood. TorchedStealth 01-24-2007, 08:29 PM Haha so my above post is wrong, but still nice race. And i think your right about the governor, my friend's brother had a gtp and he could get to 127 mph before it cut out. But then the cats decided to clog on the highway and it lit on fire and no more engine for the gtp:frown: 98BlackTransAm 01-25-2007, 01:17 AM sorry if you said it and i didnt see, but what year/model firebird was it? depending on what year or how many cylindars, a stock "firebird" ranges from a 13-second car to a 16-second one, and who knows where it would be with mods. anyways nice race. VR43000GT 01-25-2007, 01:28 AM ^^ It was a modded 6 cylinder. I believe he said it was dynoed at 222 to the wheels (give or take). It was a post 94 model is what I recall. jeepgclwj 01-25-2007, 06:39 AM It's a 96 firebird 3.8 with headers, cam, exhaust, intake, and others. I was wondering last night after the race why I slowed like I did and he was able to pass. It was like I hit a wall or something. I wonder if I had reached my speed limit. In any case its mod time for me. 1996 pontiac firebird. Custom ported heads, abbott N/A cam, ported intake manifolds, full exaust, posi, 3.73 gears, corvette servo, homemade ram air these are his mods from his own words Gotian 01-25-2007, 11:21 AM cool race, chip that gtp to get rid of the governor, the 97 GT that my dad has tops at 110 which sucks ass cause it feels good to drive it. So get rid of that gov. then go from there. jeepgclwj 01-25-2007, 01:09 PM Do you guys think his mods are good enough to get me top end like that or do you think I hit my top governed speed. The reason I ask is I am not a sore loser or anything but I cant see how until we reached those high speed I was ahead a little and then at 120 or so he pulled hard. I dunno but Gotian you are right, that speed governer has to go. I think this weekend I will start working on my custom FWI and as soon as thats done I will delete the resenator and u-bend with a striaight piece. That will free up some of the factory restrictions. The U-bend is something to look at. It is a U of course but it is also flattened a little as well. Also you might've hit your governor, i think the firebird has a bit more top end than you, not sure though. If you chip the GTP you should look into opening those gears aswell see if you can get it to hold the powerband longer, should come in handy if you really do plan on modding the car. Possibly if he really has as much power as he says he does. I raced a F-body V6 Camaro with my 3000gt and had no problem with it from our race from a roll. And I know from experience a GTP can outrun my 3000gt without that much of a problem. jeepgclwj 01-25-2007, 03:16 PM I have seen his dyno results so hes pushing what he says and after yesterday I have a new respect for 3.8n/a motors now as well as the s/c ones. He said he getting a 3500 stall coverter real soon so I guess I better hurry up and do something:) I am looking forward to seeing his times next season. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
