Was sitting at a light last Friday waiting for it to change, and my car just died. Cranked but would not start. Rush hour traffic, and no place to pull over cause a major problem. Thanks god for my wife she enrolled us in AAA. Had it towed to my house. I have not had any time to looked at it. I am thinking it is ignition. Electronic module or something like that. Any ideas.

It could be fuel or spark related. Listen for the fuel pump to prime when you first turn the key on. If you hear the pump kick on, then you need to do a fuel pressure check (should be 40-47psi, key on/engine off) and check for spark. No spark could be a bad crank position sensor, ignition module, or the wiring harness between the CKPS and ignition module.

Thanks for the help. Since I was sitting at a light and with no warning quit, I tend to believe it is the ignition module. My Dad owned the car before me. He had this problem and the module fixed it. Anyway...I know where to start. I have also had a speedo and tach that is reading wrong. This has been going on since I have owned the car. Probably a bad connection, somewhere I am sure. Maybe a ground.

Well, Saturday I removed my ignition module and took it to O'Rielly to get it tested. It was not the simplest job in the world to remove this thing. According to them it tested bad. Feeling good that I solved the problem, I put the new one on. Dissappointment soon followed. Now I am second guessing the validity of the test at O'Rielly. I had them throw my old module away (bad move). Going forword I guess I should believe them, and replace the Cranksensor (CKS). I did verify that a fuse was not blown, and also retraced my steps through the wiring. Anybody have any ideas? Is CKS easy to replace? Where eactly is it? I guess it also could also be my computer. Any help would be appreciated. Where is the connector for pulling the troublecodes for this year?

The harness from the CKPS to the ICM on these cars is common to get damaged either by the pasenger side drive axle, or road debris where it goes under the harmonic balancer up to the ignition module. If you have an ohm meter, check for continuity between the CKPS connector and the ICM. The crank sensor can be a bear to change, if the o-ring seal hardens and it's stuck in the block. If it's not stuck, it's a simple un-plug, remove one bolt proceedure. It's located in the back of the block between the oil pan rail and the exhaust manifold, slightly toward the passenger side of the center of the block.

I went to change the crank sensor and it broke off on me when I tried to twist it out. I am hosed now. I might be able to thread a screw, heat it up, if I can get a torch in there. That Oring is seized tight. Any suggestions. There is so much room to work with...not! Short of dissasembling I am screwed.
