Hi All,

My 2000 Blazer LS 4x4 4.3 V6 is making a very weird friction-like (NOT grinding) noise when turning in either direction while in 4HI. It only happens while making a turn at speeds BELOW 20mph. Going straight or turning at above 20mph does not produce any symptoms. The worst thing about this is that whenever I turn right or left in 4HI, the truck stops moving and refuses to move until I shift the transfer case back to 2HI. Then it works just fine.

Any ideas? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

If it is doing this on hard pavement I would suggest leaving the truck in 2wd. This transfer case is not made to run in 4wd on hard pavement. One turn of the rear driveshaft = on turn of the front driveshaft. Going around a corner on hard pavement, that don't work.

What type of turns are you talking about - just regular driving and turning a corner? Or is it when making a sharp turn like a u-turn or like when parallel parking?
