97 metro still bad milagebrupp 01-17-2007, 08:58 AM hey guys ,, well my metro still has bad millage,,, i have tried everything under the sun i can think of , sensors are all good , new map sensor, new o2 sensor. timing belt new, fuel filter new , timing right on , hard to adjust though. new plugs wires car rotor... has a number 2 cly miss fire keeps coming up... but the plug is good nice and clean.... could the igniter be going bad in the distributer??? i had a dodge colt that, that part went bad and it wouldn't run good..... thanks for all the help idmetro 01-17-2007, 06:58 PM Check your fuel return line to the gas tank for blockage. I remember reading a post indicating that this had caused a problem for others. Also I'd suggest checking your fuel pressure - I seem to recall reading about other metros where the pressure was too high jamming extra fuel through the injector (possible bad fuel pressure regulator?). Try the search function you might find still other ideas. Good Luck and let us know what you find. Royger 01-18-2007, 01:38 AM I had a gentleman the other day tell me that it's common for the fuel pump has a regulator that goes out inside. Gas pressure should be 40lbs. When it goes out it will push 50lbs of pressure. 91Caprice9c1 01-18-2007, 07:09 AM could the igniter be going bad in the distributer??? If the timing is hard to adjust after shorting the plug under the hood per service instructions, try idling the vehicle and disconnecting the map sensor. If the timing still wont hold still there is either a mechanical or electrical problem allowing the timing to fluctuate. After ruling out a loose timing sprocket/belt and/or exessive play between cam and dist. shaft and dist shaft and rotor, test the igniter for proper resistence with a digital volt ohm meter - preferably removed from the engine so you can spin the dist. shaft and observe the resistence spikes as each of the blades collapses the magnetic field, if all the blades produce a similar spike, compare readings to specification. If a blade produces a weak spike, say, the blade corresponding to cyl 2 as well as a reading that is significantly out of spec i'd say you found your culprit. Smell and feel the oil for fuel dilution, do a compression test, might reveal a dead #2 cyl. -mechanicmatt $400chevymetro 01-18-2007, 10:22 AM Have you done a compression test? Low compression on #2 cyl can show up as a misfire. I'm assuming you are getting a misfire code. Checking your fuel pressure regulator is easy. Take off air cleaner cover and remove 4 torx screws in small plate towards front of TB. Sometimes the spring will rust and loose tension. Make sure the rubber diaphram is in good shape with no holes or tears. I'm thinking fuel pressure on a 3cyl is somewhere between 15 and 20 psi. I just checked mine a few months ago with homemade pressure tester. If you need to check fuel pressure go to teamswift Here's a link http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?t=24569 brupp 01-18-2007, 01:01 PM I Have Done A Fuel Psi Test, It Was Good , But In Case I Find Otherwise Where Should I Go For A New Regulator? No Parts Store Or Dealer Here Carries Them. Compresion Test Is Good , Psi Is Low... 125 Across All 3 But , Car Ran Great Then One Day Sputtered And Weak.. Resulting In The Prob I Have Now... Egr Is All Clean Too... I Will Check Ignitor Tonight. Return Line Is Good Too. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
