the other night me and my dad just got finished putting my new distributor cap and rotor button on,and so i was pulling out to go get some gas and test it out,my neighbors teenage son pulls out right behind me on there brand new 06 grand marquis i really pay no attention,we get into the small town before the 55 and he comes flying up behind me all over my bumper i look back and notice,so when we get to the 55 i drop back to 2nd and floored it he did also and kept up decent i only got up to 60,well its about 20 miles to the gas station and its a 10 mile curvy road before a long straight one,he stay close to my bumper backing off sumtimes and running up fast all the way down the curvy road, well we come up to the stop sign to turn onto the long straigt,i pull my car back in 1st and pull out slow and he pulls out into the other lane (its a 2 lane highway) and were going about 5 mph and we both punch it and i get about a car on him, shift to 2nd and he gains a tiny bit, then i pull away about a car and a half we got up to about 80 and i decide to let off and he comes flying by,slows down and then turned off we both blew our horn when i passed as he turned off,it was a fairly decent race i have to say i never expected him to race me though, just hope his parents dont find out he raced there brand new car.

Hope the brakes don't fail on his brand new car. You couldn't pay me to drive another Grand Marquis. Anyway, nice kill. Welcome to AF.

I have a hard time believing a 2006 Grand Marquis 4.6L V8 with 224hp/275ft-lbs of torque would be slower than a 1989 Camaro RS 2.8L V6, which at would of had 135hp/160ft-lbs of torque.

Ford Crown Victoria LX Police Intercepter (CVPI), which is roughly the same car as the Marquis just the Marquis is about 150lbs heavier due to leather and more creature comforts. Runs 0-60 in 8.4 seconds and the 1/4 in 16.4 @ 89mph. So we'll call it 16.5-16.7.

Where as the Camaro RS 2.8L V6's would do 0-60 in roughly 10 seconds and do the 1/4 in 17 seconds.

Even with the few mods done to it, I still find the RS with the odds against it. With the exhaust, and airboxes gutted it probably only picked up 15-20hp at most... so we're talking roughly 150hp now in a ~3400lb car vs 224hp in a ~ 4100lb car.

The only thing the Camaro RS has in it's favor is gear ratios, in both the 5-speed manual and 4-speed auto models they had 3.42 ratios for 1989. Where as the Grand Marquis has 2.27 ratio, unless it's a LX Sport which gives it a bump in power to 240hp/290tq and it gains a 3.27 ratio.

well... whatever. Just keep it safe.

yea i live out in the middle of nowhere i live within 20 miles of 3 towns with gas stations, the ones that are closer gas is so much more its worth my drive to one of the towns, and i wouldnt have raced one of those if i hadnt known it was my neighbor, because our police drive those same cars to.

you could say that. I think it was the first ever airbourne Mercury :grinyes: Possibly even the quickest totaled one as well.
