Enzo Help needed ( Anyone who can create rims please drop in)

Hi im looking for this set of rims for my enzo . From my knowledge i have never seen this rims in plastic , So im guessing i need someone to make one out of metal or smt. So if anyone can do one set please leave me a quote of your price. Also if anyone has seen it in molded plastic and know where to get one set please do point me in the right direction! Much thanks in advance :)

After looking over Hiroboy's FXX pics yesterday, I saw these too!!! THey are beautiful on the ENZO, I will pay for some also.......:popcorn:

I like that wheel on that silver Enzo, too. It look like a BBS, but with very sparse design: 7 double spokes. I've never seen anything like that in plastic, so I guess you (or someone else) have to make one yourself.

Here are a few I found. I'm not sure about the size of these Mini Z wheels? I think the cars are 1/28 scale???

Mini-Zs are, I think, 1:18. They are the Kyosho cars that are essentially the same as a 1:10 RC car, but smaller. Not like the Radioshack cars, which are 1:28.

Wow, they are pretty aren't they? I've actually been looking at that pic all day, and thinking. :sly: I simply do not know if I could machine that- but I just might be tempted to try. They would not be quick, and they would not be cheap. And I doubt I'll get much chance to try before mid March or so. If I can do it, each wheel would be a two part affair, with a resin face and a turned aluminum rim, possibly with a separate aluminum or resin center pin like the 'rivet' in Tamiya's F40 wheels.

I may think about it for a bit....

I made something similar for my current Super 7 project, (I just had to make it a 7 spoke design...) As MPWR said, not quick, and not cheap. I machined the center for mine from aluminum. Very time consuming and many chances to screw it up and waste a lot of effort... I got lucky, made it through the first time out, (long time) out... - Mark

Yeah, and having seen your pics on how you did it is what's got me thinking about this one. Wow, how many different 7 sided parts did you make on your rotaty table? You must have had X(360/7) memorized and been reciting them with ease in your sleep- or is your rotary table CNC?

Why 7, damnit? I'm happy with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, or 12- but 7 or 11 are truely obnoxious.

But really right now it's the triangular cutouts between the double spokes that are elluding me. If I had a full XY base for my mill, I think a .010" slitting saw might do it nicely. Still I'd rather do it vertically, maybe with a 1/32 end mill- but then they have their obvious limitations, don't they? (I broketwo in one day a week ago. :banghead:) Either way, it's alot of trig....

No CNC for me, all old school. Don't even have digital readouts. Haven't quite memorized all seven figures around the table, but I can tell if it's not the right number at a glance, (usually before I cut!).

The triangular "corners" as opposed to the "radius's" on my wheels would add another step. Without a slitting saw, I guess probably some hand work to remove the radius with a file would be the way to go.

Oh yes, I have gone through my share of those little end mills. I always buy two or more at a time, unfortunately that's about the entire stock my supplier has on hand any given day. Once I broke my last one little more than 3/4 of the way through a project. Had to re-make three finished parts and start number four fresh too so all four would match, and on top of that I had to reset all my measurements to cut with a larger tool, (the tool supply store was closed on that weekend). It was the wheel knock-offs for a previous Super 7...

how i would do it in a old school multi-part way

i) work on a master of plain wheel face - just the disk with the correct curves and whatnot on the face.

ii) make a master of the larger "hole" - replicate 7 of them

iii) make a master of the smaller (triangular) hole - replicate 7 of them

use the master face die to create a neg of the whole wheel.
in the neg, accurately locate and place the positives of the wheel voids.

cast.

y'see, triangular voids are easy(ish).

just you try and make a wheel with assymetric eliptical/oval voids like this one...

Ok small update : Cleaned up alot of on the rims and 2nd rear rim is taking shape as well... Ill try to get hold on a resin casting kit to cast afew sets.

Nice! But when did I miss what you made those rims out of? Looks like a lot of trial and error. What is the scaled diamter though? The ones in the pic easily look 19" I could be wrong, but they look pretty darn big?!?!?!

I will be buying a couple of sets from you by the way, if you can. :popcorn:

U saw the progress on my FXX thread right? I used the stock enzo rims and added the ferrari style BBS spokes to it. Shaped it and there u have it... Still have alot alot of cleaning up to do but its almost there

Nope willimo: kyosho miniz are just 1/28 : I have a couple of those, a I and a II series, tuned :D simply too fast to follow with eyes on short (6 by 4 mtrs) tracks LOL

BTW I guess I'll do those rims by several PE layers, seamed togheter with a inner lathed brass hub. May be I'll try something since my 2 FXX should be here, shipped several days ago.

My friend has a cnc machine, but wheels look like a tricky subject.
