if you have a turbo then that is it hands down.
if not then your oil rings could be a possibility.

Does it smoke at any RPM, only at WOT, only at idle, etc? Is it more white, more black, or more blue?

It starts to smokes about 1 minute after the car is started. I just remember I smokes from 1st to 2nd gear then after the 2 gears it stops. The smoke color is mostly white with a little tint of grey. Any opinion on what to troubleshoot next?

ok now we're getting somewhere. take off your Intake and move the turbine of the turbo around... if it move the slightest hair, your turbo is going out. doesn't mean anything if it wasn't touched mine did the same thing.

If you read his thread he says its a tsi ;)

Does not mean its going, your allowed a tolerance. They will allways have a little play in them, there a bushing.
Now back to the post, check your shaft play and tell us what it is.

A couple inches!?! If it moves anything close to even 3/4 of an inch you're lucky you haven't blown it up yet.

Ok, lets keep this thread to solving the problem... It isn't necessarily the turbo causing the smoke. Sure its a possibility, but theres other things it could be too. It could even be the car just running way too rich due to a bad O2 sensor or something.

it can't be running too rich, if it was it would be spewing out black smoke.
white= coolant, head gasket
blue=oil, seals, rings
black=rich, catalytic converter is shot
well so far he hasn't followed up on the turbo theory so i'm still sticking w/ it since i went through 2 turbos just like this.

He doesn't have black, white, or blue smoke though. If it was rich, it would be BLACK BLACK, not grey like he's saying. And white, well that's just obvious. It may be a mixture of running rich and having a bad HG, but the chances of that happening at the same time aren't very good.
4g63 rice, have you given it an overall tune-up lately? Plugs, wires, all filters, coolant, etc...

He said a tune up, not a repair... Just a little bit of a difference there.

Is the turbo turbine not suppose to move? The last time I checked, the turbine was in free play, or I can move it without any force. Anyway now that you mentioned it it could be the o2 sensor because it could be making my car run lean.
Also for the tune up: we changed the headgasket, oil and filter, tranny fluid, clutch, spark plug and wires, waterpump, and new coolent. We pretty much did the whole tune up process.

the turbo should move freely within 1/8 of an inch give or take. anything after that, coolant and oil can seep through
4g63rice

What do you mean by move? Do you mean spining or by pressing the turbine and see how how much play it has.

It should spin freely, but not move in and out, sideways, or back and forth more than 1/8in or so.
