What size engine? Distributer or distributerless? If distributer try the ignition box. If distributerless try changing the crank position sensor. Also there should be a module inside the distributer that can go bad and not allow it to fire. If these don't work then try the coil as it may be bad but change the wires just in case they caused the coil to go bad.

Check the 10 amp Room fuse and the 15 amp engine fuse inside the passenger compartment. The crank position sensor gets its juice from the 10 amp room fuse. The dark blue wire going into the base of the coil pack should be hot with the ignition on. IF it's not the ignition switch is bad. If all this checks out okay the coil pack or the EDIS (Electronic distributorless Igniton System) is bad. The EDIS is on the fender well in front of the strut tower on the drivers side. Right across from the battery. The coil pack (as you know) is under the ignition wires. I don't know of any way to check the coil pack or EDIS other than by replacing them.

The CPS picks up on the missing tooth on the timing ring behind crankshaft pulley. The two are pressed together and sometimes they become separated throwing the ignition off. If the serpentine belt is off center on the bottom pulley (too far forward) then this is the problem.

As GTP Dad says the ignition wires if bad will make the coil go out. If your Escort has over 75k you should probably replace the wires. They are cheap and easy to do.

Last but not least make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.

I checked both Fuses & they are OK. I'm not getting a reading on the Dark Blue Wire. When I turn on the iginition switch to ACC.. the radio will play.but,
when I turn it to the ON position I lose power to the radio. When I turn the switch from the OFF position to the ON position my RPM gage will jump. I hooked up the battery charger to the battery & then my radio would play in the ON position. I think I have a bad Switch..What do you think?

Easy enough to check. Disconnect the switch and hotwire it to start.
