1992 Ford Escortsportsman 01-13-2007, 03:51 PM I have no fire to the plugs. What should I look for and how do I test it? mightymoose_22 01-13-2007, 10:01 PM How did you determine you are not getting spark? Davescort97 01-14-2007, 02:17 AM Get an assistant to stick his fingers into the spark plug boots while turning the engine over. He'll let you know if it's getting spark. lol. Just kidding. Don't do this. Stick the plug into the boot and ground it while turning the engine over. Don't do this if there's gasoline in the area. sportsman 01-14-2007, 10:11 AM How did you determine you are not getting spark? I ground the plug out and even held it in my hand...... There is no Fire there . any ideas? sportsman 01-14-2007, 10:13 AM Get an assistant to stick his fingers into the spark plug boots while turning the engine over. I already did the ground and Yes, I even held it in my hand ! still no fire . Any ideas? MT-2500 01-14-2007, 10:33 AM I already did the ground and Yes, I even held it in my hand ! still no fire . Any ideas? What engine? How old is that timing belt? First thing to check would be for the dist rotor turning when cranking. If dist rotor is turning the ing module would be the next check and make sure the coil is getting key on voltage. sportsman 01-14-2007, 02:30 PM What engine? How old is that timing belt? It has a 1.9 engine. The timing belt is OK not to old. When I have the inginition switch on acc. the radio is playing. When I turn it to the ON position it kills the power to the radio. Is this suppose to happen. also, noticed if I turn the switch from the off position to the on position my RPM Gage jumps. Davescort97 01-14-2007, 04:02 PM It has a 1.9 engine. If the radio quits when you turn it to the ON position then it's not getting any power. It's not the fuse because then it wouldn't work at all in any position. If the radio isin't getting power, probably the ignition isn't getting any either. The wire from the ignition switch to the coil pack is Dark Blue. Check it for power with a test light or voltmeter while the key is in the ON position.. If it's not hot maybe the problem is with the ignition switch. There is no fuse on the ignition switch. It is hot at all times from the battery. sportsman 01-15-2007, 07:04 PM My schematic shows the radio power to be hot in ACC or ON. How can I get a wiring diagram of the ignition system. Do you know of a web sight I can pull up to get this info. lui1828 01-16-2007, 10:38 AM www.autozone.com . look for vehicle repair guides. sportsman 01-23-2007, 07:39 PM www.autozone.com (http://www.autozone.com) . look for vehicle repair guides. Thanks for info. I have the car running now. It was the crank shaft position sensor. But now, when I turn the switch to acc. or in the ON position I have No Power to the wipers, radio. But the car will start and run. The switch was working fine until I changed the sensor. Switch test good with my OMH meter. Any Ideas? Mcloud1 01-23-2007, 08:19 PM Sounds like a short circuit or shorted wire. That from what I heard is the main prioblem when it comes to radio failure, or just something was knocked loose when the oxygen sensor was being replaced. Selectron 01-23-2007, 09:32 PM Also, did you check for a blown fuse? Edit: Oh hold on, you're saying that the ignition switch was working fine until you changed the sensor, but earlier in the thread you said: When I have the inginition switch on acc. the radio is playing. When I turn it to the ON position it kills the power to the radio. Is this suppose to happen. also, noticed if I turn the switch from the off position to the on position my RPM Gage jumps. It sounds like you did have problems in the ignition switch and maybe you still do, or as Mcloud1 said, it may be a short between some adjacent wires. I doubt if it's a direct short to chassis, because that would be blowing fuses. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
