I just replaced a gas line on a 95 escort wagon, it was a feed line. So anyways i got it all done and now it wont start. It has spark, i aired out the line. ive tried using starting fluid and the stupid car cranks and cranks but wont fire. what can be wrong?????

My escort is a UK diesel so I'm not familiar with your model but I think I'm right in saying that when you switch the ignition on, you would normally hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds as it primes the system, ready to start - is that right, and do you still hear the pump run for those few seconds?

If the starter turns it over clutch starting it wouldn't do anything different. If it won't start using starter fluid the problem most likely is not fuel starvation but spark. I know it's gettin' spark, but ----------.

In that case I probably can't help because I'm only familiar with the electrical side of the fuel system, and if the pump is running then that's probably all ok. It sounds like an airlock though so I'll have a look for any old threads using the advanced search facility.

Edit: ah, maybe not - Davescort97 knows his Escorts so if he suspects it's an ignition problem rather than a fuel airlock then I'd trust his judgement.

ok well i check the spark again maybe some gas got down in there or the plugs or wires are bad. now i was talking to someone who said that under the distrubiter there is something that goes bad that would vause it not to start. could that possibly be the problem .

Since it was a fuel line you were working on prior to this problem, I would suspect air in the lines to be the trouble.

yeah i thought that too but i got all the air bubbles i belive i did it about 6-7 times. i still got to recheck the spark and im going to check the sensor thing that sits under the distrubiter and hopefully one of those 2 will fix it. but i still would like people inputs for my help..thank you

What area were you working in when you repaired the line?

The car won't start if the crank position sensor is disconnected or loose.... if for any reason you messed with it make sure it is in all the way. It is located on the front and reads the signal from the sprocket with the missing tooth.

The gas leak was right behind the cv shaft on the drivers side front wheel. Im not the best person with cars so i thought it was going to be easier then what it was. where about would i find crank position sensor? sry to ask but i really dont know. thank you. oh yeah i just realized i spelled escort wrong in the title.

Well working in the area you described you probably didn't mess with the crank sensor. However, it is located on the front of the engine (which is the passenger side) where the belts and pulleys are. it is near the bottom just below the oil filter, at an angle facing the pulleys.
Just feel around all the wires in the area and make sure they are connected tight.

well i belive i figured out what is wrong with this damn car. i think the coil pack went bad so im going to go pick one up from the junk yard and give it a shot.
