wash mitt, sponge...which is best?

I was curious what anyone thought about the best device to use to wash vehicles. I've been a sponge man for years now, but I'm beginning to question it's effect on the vehicle's surface. I've got a microfiber wash mit and a chenile one as well. Which is the least harmful to the painted surface? Are there better choices out there?

My #1 choice for years has been sheepskin. I use chenille or an old sheepskin for wheels and lower panels.

I just got my most recent edition of Family Handyman magazine, and they did an article on micro fiber mitts and gloves and other cleaning items made with it and how much better they were. They explained how they were made and how that made them better, more cleaning surfaces. They recommended them for all cleaning tasks around the house and the car as well.

Not all microfiber mitts are ideal for washing and there are many designs -- There are particulars design may be handy for dusting, they aren't suitable for washing. There are others that are more like a chenille mitt (but made of microfiber threads) and though I haven't tried them, they might be just fine.
