Explorer, Grand Cherokee or Envoycanuck-GA 01-09-2007, 07:53 PM Hey, I,m looking at buying a 2004 ford explorer, eddie bauer, v6 4x4. Is it better than an GMC Envoy or a Jeep Cherokee? What should I be looking out for when I test drive an explorer, you guys seem to be the experts, so any comments would help. Thanks a lot for any feedback. denisb 01-09-2007, 10:34 PM My personal pick would be an Explorer with a second choice of the Jeep. Talking to a couple of GM guys at the shop, the GMs seem to be high maintenance and higher cost for similar repairs. My friends got a G. Cherokee and he seems happy with it. If you do go Cherokee you might want to consider the V8. He's got a V8 and gets 18 MPG city and 22 Highway vs. his dad who has the V6 and get 16 MPG average. The 2004 Explorers seemed pretty well rated except for fuel efficiency. I haven't had mine long enough to confirm. Denis g1smith 04-22-2007, 10:38 PM I'd go with the Explorer over the Jeep, (see Avatar '99 JGC to the Left, horrible Jeep customer service). The GM guys can't even get their speedometers to work, friends Envoy indicated 120 MPH in the parking lot, $200 repair for a defective cluster. The Jeep speedometer indicates 80 when going 96, cost the wife a hefty speeding ticket! My Jeep Grand Cherokee has the V8 4.7L. It's gets better milage than the Ford 4.0 V6. Jeep 18 MPG city Exploder 16 MPG city. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
