Engine dies when coming to stopTGENERAL 01-07-2007, 05:02 PM My 91 was having trouble with pcv valve. I was getting oil back up in the air filter. This problem has been fixed but seems to have caused another. Now when I kick it out of gear coming to a stop sometimes the engine dies. I see the oil light come on just before it dies. It always starts right back up. What can I do to fix this issue? It did not die before I replaced the pcv valve. mechhound 01-07-2007, 10:26 PM Why do you kick it out of gear when coming to a stop? Or do you have a manual tranny and when you step on the clutch, is that what you mean by kicking it out of gear? On to your problem, I would put a full container of a name brand fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of gas and hope that fixes the stalling problem. mightymoose_22 01-07-2007, 11:24 PM First, check your oil. That light should only come on if the level is low. Usually when the engine dies like that I have found it to be a vacuum problem. Do you have an acceleration problem? Try to speed up quickly and see if it is sluggish at all. 12Ounce 01-08-2007, 12:00 AM I agree with checking for a vacuum leak. You may have knocked a hose loose. The oil pressure light coming on is just probably the result of very low rpm just before snuffing out. TGENERAL 01-08-2007, 03:38 PM I just changed the oil so it's not that. I will check the hoses. It seems to be an intermittant problem. It only happens every once and a while. The car accelerates well (for a 1.9 4 cylinder). burban12 01-19-2007, 09:43 AM TGENERAL - How did you fix your PCV issue. If the idle control valve goes bad it will stall at every stop. It will gradually get worse until you replace it. 1 minute fix if you can find a cheep used one. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
