A Mustang from Tamiya

Been asked for a few pics of this.
Kit is the Tamiya Mustang painted in TS-50 and been given a small lowering job.
Very easy kit to build with no drama's
It has not got the engine detail which the other Tamiya Mustang kit has (Cobra R)
Good kit to start with if you a new to building

Another great muscle car.(I'm surprised Tamiya didn't make an engine for this kit)

It's just like Enfini RX-7 and Mazda RX7 R1. The first release doesn't have the engine, but the second release has an extra part tree. You attach the engine block on the oil pan, which is molded with the chassis. I've read a review of Tamiya's Cobra R, saying it needs some work, like changing the power window switch to the roll down handle etc.
But it's the only 1/24 scale Mustang of the current (before face lift) generation.

Nice model, that's the first Tamiya standard GT convertible I've ever seen built. I have one, just have never been inspired to build it. Living in the States and seeing Mustangs every day, Tamiya got their Mustangs a bit off. They are too wide, the hardtop/convertible was extremely rare (I've only seen one) since they just didn't fit well and had a tendency to warp. So the Tamiya kit really represents an export version with a roof that was incredibly rare.

AMT and Revell/Monogram made different variations of this style Mustang, and they are for the most part better than the Tamiya kit. The AMT is remarkably accurate, except for stupid chrome headlights which could be replaced by lenses/reflectors from the Revell kit. Revell/Monogram's body isn't perfect, but it's closer than Tamiya's. Revell/Monogram made a 5.0 hardtop, Cobra convertibles w/both 5.0 and later 4.6 DOHC engines, and later made the Saleen convertible.

Tamiya's Cobra R has plenty of inaccuracies. No fuel cell, wrong ride height, very cheesy engine detail, and since the interior parts are shared it has too many creature comforts that the Cobra R didn't have, such as better seats, A/C, radio, power windows/locks. The body does look good, wheels are excellent, and if you don't mind lowering the front it looks quite nice finished. Just don't expect it to be anywhere near an exact replica.

You were not as hooked on big panel lines back in that day I assume?
Car still looks nice though, definitely much better lowered like that.

Darn...i really thought Tamiya would have been alot beeter with there molding then what you posted was incorrect with it.

Looks very good. You matched the blue very well. I'm working on the Revell Mustang Cobra right now and I'm thinking about giving up.. nothing seems to fit well and there is a lot of engine work to do.. it seems everything is a seperate part even the oil filter.
