Fujimi Ferrari 512BB - whats the difference

Without getting into a detailed history or blow by blow differences of the real cars, the offerings are basically the progression of 1:1 models. They were the 365BB then the 512BB and the 512BBi.

Appearance wise, the 365 body differs from the 512, notably the side NACA ducts, but the engines appear similar. The 512BBi appears body style similar to the 512BB, but the engine has Fuel Injection istead of Webers.

The question is, will the kits accurately represent the differences on the real cars or not. From build-ups I've seen so far, it seems that the 512BB seems accurate, and I doubt Fujimi will screw up the 512BBi, because the differences are minor, and parts seem to be molded for easy conversion. But the 365 requires a completely different body shell (especially the already-mentioned engine cowl), so we won't know until the actual kit comes out.

The 365 also had three round taillights and three exhaust pipes on each side (total of 6), whereas the 512 BB and BBi had only 2 each on each side.

365 GT4 BB

The first Boxer, the 365 GT4 BB was released for sale in 1973 at the Paris Motor Show.

Though it shared its numerical designation with the 365 Daytona, the Boxer was as different as could be. It was a mid-engined car like the Dino, and the now flat-12 engine was mounted longitudinally rather than transversely.

The engine shared its internal dimensions with the V12 from the Daytona, but was spread out to 180° as on Ferrari's 1970 Formula One car. It produced 380 hp and was mounted above a five-speed manual transmission. One major difference in this engine was its use of timing belts rather than chains.

The Pininfarina body was an angular wedge with popup headlights. 387 examples were built.

512BB

The 365 was updated as the 512BB in 1976, resuming the name of the earlier Ferrari 512 racer. The engine was larger at 4942 cc, but power was off to 360 hp to fulfill laws. Dry sump lubrication was used for a lower center of gravity. External differentiators included a new front spoiler, wider rear tires, added side air vents ducting air to the brakes, and four tail lights (rather than six). 929 512BBs were produced.

The Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injected 512BBi was the last of the series. Introduced in 1981, it was cleaner but kept the same power. 1,007 512BBi models were produced.

Thanks for the clarification on the photos. I was scanning the web during during a break for examples and found the ones I posted. I should have thought about checking Sheehan's site. I have a link to them on my home computer for reference data.

In fact, Sheehan has two 365BB's, several 512 BB's and a couple of BBi's in the Sold section. In fact, he has one BBi in the For Sale section. Lot's of reference pics there for the model builder.
