94 Intrepid, no heat

So my dad drove a 94 Dodge Intrepid with a 3.3 back to Colorado from Los Angeles...was freezing half to death the whole time once he got out of L.A.

He said when he turned on the heater, it blew out ice cold air...never heated up. He said he felt the heater core lines, said one was hot, the other was warm. Im thinking perhaps a blockage in the core.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Still broke? Throw in a bottle of a superduty flush and backflush the whole system. Sure the vent blend door is opening to let the hot air from the core into the cabin. Is the heater valve on the firewall (if there is one) opening? Any defrost heat?

There is no heat coming out of anywhere in the cabin...one heater hose is hot, the other is ice cold...Im thinking its a clog in the heater core...

Ok. We went from warm to ice cold. Yup, plugged heater core. Sure would be nice if you could disconnect the hose off the valve and poor something down the hose and into the core to eat away the clog. Try calling a radiator shop and see if they have a trick or two. A back flush has a chance but, an iffy one if it's completely plugged. Pulling a core is a PIA.

Try bleeding any air out of the system, there is a bleeder on the thermostat housing. any air in the system will cause no heat.

Did a reverse flush, which cleared a blockage out of the heater core, as both heater hoses are now hot. Still no heat, so probably the blend door actuator, as well...
