87 IROC ain't "ROC-in"

1987 IROC - 305 TPI.
Starting difficult.
After starting, quits if throttle isn't applied.
Misses and "backfires" on even light accelleration.
After it reached operating temp, it will not restart after it stalls - until it cools.

New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition module, fuel filter.
No engine codes.
No detectable vacuum leaks.
Ignition timing spot-on.

Help?

Is there a detectable fuel odor after the engine has been shut off for several minutes?

Can you test fuel pressure while running and after shutdown?

No fuel odor. The Fuel pressures are within specs.

Did you change all that stuff to try to fix it, or did it start acting up after you changed all the stuff?

As attempts to rectify the problem. I figured it couldn't hurt to eliminate some of the easy stuff.

Do you smell rotten eggs? If so the cat could be plugged.

No foul smells. The cat was replaced about 30k ago.

2 classic suspects here:

1-fuel pump

2-ignition control module

Both the fuel pump and Ignition module have been replaced - no change.

No fuel odor. The Fuel pressures are within specs.

So pressure is adequate while the pump is running, but what happens to pressure after the engine is shut down? Does pressure remain for at least 20 minutes? I'm thinking that you may have injector or FPR leakage.

You might also want to test for spark during the no-start condition.
