760 watt 6X9 confusion

Hey, I have 7600 watt 6X9's that I want to install in the rear of my vehicle and don't know what power amp I need. What would be the differenceif I used a 760 watt amp or 900 watt amp? also whats the difference with the ohms? 2 or 4 ohm? please help

OHMs are just resistance to current, the lower the ohm, the more resistance you have, you can search the forms and find quite a bit of info about this, should be something on the newbie thread about it! The amp you use depends on the RMS power the amp puts out, Ex. a Kicker ZX550.2 puts out 205Watts at 4 Ohm and 295Watts at 2 Ohm, give more info on your amp choices!

You don't need a high power amp to power the 6x9s, though they will sound better, it is not necessary, you can get a 4-5 channel amp and power your whole system with it, along with some subs :).

So if my 6X9's are 4 ohms, would I need a 4 ohm amp? if not, which would be better for me to use 4ohms or 2 ohms? if I use a 760watt amp at 4 ohms it won't give me full power to power the total 760 watts on my speakers, would it? it would mean I would get around 2 channels of 300 watts, is that true?

your speakers can't handle 760 watts of real power, that would be insane. get a 2 or 4 channel amp that puts out around 50 watts rms per channel at 4 ohms and you will be set.

Ok you lot sound you know what your talking bout. I was thinking using a Pioneer GM-5200T 2-channel car amplifier with a total power of 780W and RMS of 125W to power two 380watt 6X9's. would that 125 RMS be split between the two 6X9's or is it 125W RMS each? also would it work?

Honestly, you'd be better off getting a 4 or 5 channel and powering your whole system, they're not that much more either...maybe even in the same price range! between 50-100 RMS would be a good RMS rating to give you some good sound, 125 might be a bit much...not sure, depends on the speaker rating.

I have an old school hifonics zeus .... 325 watts/ch 4 ohms - wanna bet there would be nothing left of those 6X9's if you wailed on 'em ?

They would be lucky to take all a 75-100 watt/ch amp can deliver. They are probably way overrated to take the power of their way overrated amps.

LOL thats funny i thought flew market brands only did that.

I blew my friends set 760watt 6x9's with a rampage amp he had. which was like 40wattsx4 if it was lucky. Spend more and get a better set of speakers. Mine where 89 shipped and they still work as good as the day i got them.
