hello all i am new to this place and to my crx si. my question is this. while driving around, sometimes when i come to a stop or let off the gas the idle will drop and die and lately its happening almost everytime i drive. it will drive fine for a while and only die once every so often. and whats odd is i can start the car and sit there or drive somewhere and stop and sit and it wont die it only dies when i drive and then slow down or stop or let off the gas. and my ignition is being weird i have to put pressure on it either upwards or downwards to start the car but when i charged up the battery it would start on the first click. im kinda lost here. maybe thats due to the alternator? and if so would that have anything to do with the bad idle.? srry if im confusing. any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. The weight of your keys is creating an open circuit in your worn ignition as you slow down or stop.

Have you been having problems with alternator not charging the battery? If not, I think you got lucky when you tried to start the car after charging the battery because the alternator should keep the battery fully charged at all times while driving.

There could be quite a few things wrong with it, but in most cases with the idle dropping and cutting the car off when you come to a stop it seems to be something wrong with the idle air control valve, or you can check the map sensor. usually it is the iac valve though. i would just give it a shot, but it does sound like something is wrong with your ignition switch as well. you might want to get a multimeter and test your wire to see if something has gone bad.

You know I am having the exact same problem with my 87 crx dx only I don't have fuel injection do I still have a map sensor or a idle air control valve, I am not sure what it could be.
