i was at a party with some buddies and one of the kids there had a white 99 auto mustang gt. i had never actually raced a mustang from a dig in this car, so i convinced him to take it out for a run. there's this nice 1/2 mile or so stretch that's about 5 lanes across a mile or so away from my old high school. and there's never any cops there that i've ever seen b/c it's kind of out of the way and doesn't get much traffic at night. anyways we lined up to go from a dig. he has an intake and catback exhaust, and i just have an slp lid and an exhaust cutout and i'm an auto too. i had traction ctrl on so i wouldn't roast my tires,, right off the line i got a slight jump on him and walked him steadily, but as soon as I hit 2nd i just pulled very hard and left him multiple bus lengths behind by ~110. then we went from a 25mph roll. my car downshifted and then basically left him way behind. i let off at about 100 that time with a very large distance betwen us once again. he then yelled out his window "that thing definately outpowers me! you've got me beat man!" i'm glad to see he didn't have any lame excuses or wasn't a dick about it. fun race.

i was with one of my buddies who had dropped his arms to start the race with the stang,, after that we went to a kid's house who i had raced before but he wanted a rematch. he has a blue 05 srt-4 and we raced a few months ago when we were both stock and i put a couple bus lengths on him. since then I got the mods i mentioned before and he got a BOV, thermostat, and cai,, nothing major for either of us since our first run. we lined up at that same stretch that i raced the mustang at, and i had traction control on once again. my friend dropped his arms again, and he got a fender on me in the first instant probly due to the traction ctrl, but about 1 second into the race i just started walking pretty hard and had maybe 1 or 1.5 bus lengths on him by 110. we went from a 25 roll as well, in which i got the jump and just walked away pretty strong once again. i had 5 or 6+ car lengths on him by 100.

anyways, i'm pretty satisfied with how she's running, and tommorrow i'm droppin her off to put a 3400 torque converter (2.1 str) and tranny cooler in. i've heard they shave about .4-.6 of your E.T. on street tires, so assuming i can hook, the TA should be a whole different animal come tommorro night :evillol:

lol yeah, and i bet you'll never guess his excuse after he lost the race. "i think i have a boost leak." i give more credit to the mustang owner for humility.

I'm surprised you even raced them,a LS1 is the killer of almost all stock engines other than the higher LS engines.

yeah the stang was auto..i've raced another srt-4 who had similar mods as this one plus a boost controller and it was a lot closer. i still edged him out by about 3 car lengths but he was pushin 20 psi and he def hung with me better. still waitin to get my car back from the shop tonight. it's taking a little longer than expected but i should have it around 8 or so :smokin:

Why were his mods a disgrace?
A bov? Maybe he didn't like the stock surge valve...
A new t-stat? We wanted cooler coolant temps.
A cai? He wanted to free up some space under the hood

Some people don't have as much of an urge to quickly mod up a car.

Good kill. The torque converter is going to make a huge difference. Most people overlook it as they only want mods that add horsepower. With drag radials you'll be mertilizing most everything out there, including AWD cars. Looks like you've got an aggressive torque converter going in too.

I can't wait to see 1/4 mile times, and will venture to say that it will probably be in the very low 13 sec. area.

well why even bother racing a LS1 then..... then has the nerves too make an excuse.....like I said he should have gotten more stickers it would have done better against his TA.....

so the races happen in Cary...hmm...i was once told by a cop that they had Car locked when it comes to that, but that was a while ago...i always like Weston Prkwy...but police always seem to be there

I feel bad for owners of those 00 mustang gt's with auto trannies, because they just get the whole "GT" thing robbed from them with that tranny. It's almost like night and day with that year of mustang. My GSR has beaten 2 of those autos, and that's just not right. Congrats on your kill, LS motors were built by God (kinda)

There are a bazillion cops in Cary, but you can still get some races if u know where to go

Well that's true though. I'm not sure why either parties wasted there time. I myself am one of those people who won't race if I know I'm going to win or loose because there is no purpose so makes sense.

good stuff. yeah the auto trannies in those years mustangs blow. but it doesnt matter, obviously you woulda won anyway. 350hp > 260hp

I raced a modded ls1 camaro from a 60mph roll and by 145 I pulled a few busses and I was running 16psi. By the way E-blue is an 04 color 05's colors are stone white and orange blast.

I like racing people that are faster than me.....and if I lose there is no excuses....just respect.....I take the lost as encouragement to make my car that much faster.....and for the record I have raced many stock and modded LS1s and from that I also have wins and loses.....

Man I have forgotten what a stock LS1 F-Body does.

Anyone up for a race with me??
Requirements....
Stock LS1 F-Body. That is all.
And I get to drive it once.

DAMN. i got my car back from the shop with the converter installed and it doesn't even feel like the same car..no matter what gear i'm in or what speed i'm going, WOT seems to instantly put me at the top of my powerband. I was gonna re-race the srt-4 just to see how much faster it made it but i've decided not to even waste my gas. it might be an '04 srt4 but I thought he said it was an '05. i'll post some vids up when I get the chance, but yeah a high stall MOS DEF wakes up an auto tranny :evillol:

i'm on street tires right now, yokohamas. i definately need to get some DR's soon because with t/c off i can't hook from anything less than 45 :smokin:. if I go to the 1/4 track with these i'll probly leave an 1/8 mile of rubber behind me :banghead:

i'm not sure what type of tires vette's come with stock, i would have thought trans ams and maro's had about the same type of tire. but vette's hook so well, yet trans ams seem to have problems. racing with t/c on sucks, i know how you feel having to use it for the time bieng. but your still kickin ass so thats all that matters :)

Mr. Luos
12-26-2006, 02:55 PM
Isn't the tires.
Suspension and tranny location.

Gets harder to hook up a Corvette with more power, but they do fairly decent stock.
Roommates '02 Z06 does pretty good as well. Just exhaust and filter.

yeah my pops c5 would hook up nice, i killed a few cars off the line, hooking up just right.
i also read that the trans am hooks better than the maro ss? not so sure how true that is

just re-read the article, i miss read it. mentioned its faste then the ss for weight reasons they beleive..yet they were talking about the formula

Mr. Luos

Give them one of each LS1 powered F-Body and on any given day any of them could be the fastest.
At least stock for stock.

:1: be it a formula, t/a, ws6, z28, or ss, the only real noteable difference is styling. the design of the y-bodied ls1 vette gives it a slight upper hand tho, and apparently the ls1 gto has a slight handicap from what i've seen and read.
