have you tried new low beam bulbs? change out 1 and see if it works before doing the other. low beams burn out more often. my 97 uses the high beams for daytime running lights. check out the light switch on the steering column. the is a post about it on this site.

by chance do you tow a trailer ? i recall replacing a buddies light switch that had melted - it was cuased by a frayed power wire that was touching the metal frame of the tailer .. at any rate it sounds like the light switch itself is the problem .

Do you have any kind of auxiliary lights, fog lights, etc, especially after market stuff?

Sounds like the low/high beam switch. I had a similar problem afew weeks ago where I didn't have any low beams except daytime until I tried the low/high switch a few times. Problem has not returned but it was linked to that switch.

i suggest put a light rack on the back and mount some heavy duty off road lights up top, plenty of light

Please check the date before you post in old threads, this one has been dead for almost 2 years. Thanks.
