Burning Oil

Well, I still cant figure out why my car is burning oil. I was thinking about putting on one of those breather things or an oil catch tank so I took off the hose and it was completely dry of oil so I dont think that would help. So what could the problem be. I just buned a little less 1 quart of oil over the last 2,000mi. Also my licp has oil comeing out of the coupler that connects to the intercooler. What is going on??

Does it smoke blue? How many miles does the car have on it? I'm putting my money on worn rings.

Really one quart for 2,000 miles isn't that bad... Try my shoes on for size. The Firebirds eating almost 3 quarts a week. lol :uhoh:

I really do need to fix that rear main seal...

i would check the spark plug seals and the valve cover gasket (what it was on my 91 tsi awd)

it could be piston rings, blown turbo seal, valve seals. it could be the turbo because you said there is oil coming from the lower intercooler pipe.

I would go with this. If your leaking oil into the lower I/C pipe it might be time for a new turbo.

109Kmi. and the smoke is black but I've seen it turn blue a few times and I only get the smoke when I have 100% power (full turbo spool/full throttle)....I'm also replacing my intercooler soon because it has a hole in it, I can even stick my finger in the hole.

damn I wish my car only burned 1 qt every 2k miles

small motor + turbo = high cylinder pressure = burning oil

although you mentioning the turbo on the lower pipe = blown turbo seal = new turbo time

(I have been studying statistics BS all night so my head is stuck on math right now)
