Vertical doors

I was wondering if any one knows how to install the shock on the hinges? Because when ever i try to install the shock i have to turn it two ways to tightn it.
I turn it one way its tight, then i raise the door to tightn it you have to turn it the other way,
then it pops out of the hole where i tightn it on the bottom. what am i doing wrong help please.
