At about 4:30 this afternoon, I was driving home from my psychology 1A class. I was on a 2-lane freeway doing about 70 in the left-hand lane behind a bunch of cars when a brand new red mustang GT coupe blows by me doing at least 90 and accelerating hard. I recognized this guy as a guy I knew from high school who thought he was all that so I decided to try and give chace. I caught up to him when he got stuck behind a slow moving truck in the left lane. When the truck pulled into the right lane, he got all over it, as did I. Now my car can't hang withthe new generation mustang GT from low gear acceleration, so I gave up about 3 or 4 lengths immediately and then the gap leveled out when we got into the high gears. I was tailing him when up ahead was a point in the highway where the lanes go down from 2 into 1, and there were a line of semis. I knew I had no chance to make it so I sorta backpedaled while he kept right in it. Sure enough, he didn't have enough time to merge ahead of the semis, so he hit the brakes so hard that he almost lost control, got completely sideways onto the shoulder, and then dove back in behind the truck, all the time while I was kind of right behind him. That got my heart pumping for awhile, and it certainly woke me up from the mid-term I had to take.:smoker2:

Reckless driver. The new GTs are pretty fast.

Yes they are, especially the 5-speeds. I knew it was a 5-speed because I saw the car buck hard when he shifted from 3rd to 4th. I've raced two of those blasted things now, and their strong suit seems to be 3rd gear.

Probally loose, ,but hey, whatever.

Yeah they are quick. I can beat one from a dead stop off the line, but once they hit 3rd gear they pull on me like mad, it's crazy.

You beat new GTs until 3rd? Are you sure about that?

uh, yeah, as sure as cancer. I was ahead for about the first 300 feet of the 1/4.

He must of had traction issues. The Gt has a pretty decent power advantage. So, what did you run in the 1/4?

Well it was pretty ghettoized......they only had a watch on the 'stang and he ran a 14.4......I lost by 3 carlengths.....I believe the rule is 1/10 of a second for every carlength, so that puts me at 14.7 give or take. Would like to run at a real strip with lights and everything though

actually 3 car lengths would make more of a difference than you think, more like half a second depending on trap speeds.

With a poor driver, it's very possible that he could have bogged his launch or spun too much resulting in a pathetic 60' time and causing him to have to play catch-up the rest of the race. (or until 3rd or whatever)

Do you know what your 60' times are street_racer_00?

Theirs actually a lot of things he could have done which could be why he stayed with the GT

nope, never have gotten a formal timeslip before, so no 60' times or 1/8 times, just a rough estimate with a stopwatch for the 1/4

And yes, all my mods are listed in my signature, I don't think I left anything out, but my springs will be coming soon.:D

Well, the guy either sucks at driving or had traction issues because w/ a generous 300lb torque curve, similar horsepower and less weight he shoulda has you from the start.

New GTs run 14.0 in the 1/4 w/ an experienced driver.

You just get your car or just moneys a little slow because you NEED to mod chip and a performance module my i sugest Venom or ZEX also a Nitro system i like NOS or Zex for Nitro systems but if its money i can understand moneys real slow on my end too but i have been saving up for a long:eek2: time so when i hit 16 i will be ready

But really you must drive good to stay with a GT

Didnt know NOS or ZEX made Nitro...

I think you're refering to Nitrous... thats different.

Nitro being what they run in the Top Fuel dragsters... its liquid... Nitrous is a gas.

Common mistake, we all learn from them right? :)

Well the guy had only had the car for 3 months, but he had been practicing his starts for 2 weeks before we actually raced, so I dunno.
