1998 k1500 Z71 Trans help!jeffro412 12-02-2006, 05:36 PM I recently took my truck (180,000 miles) in to a local radiator shop to have a leak fixed. $180 and a new oil cooler tank later (not the trans cooler) I was on my way. I have never had trans problems and I am the only owner, but on my way home I noticed that when I reached 45-50 mph (overdrive) I felt the rpm's change slightly (not slipping) and it also had an occasional vibration. So I checked the trans fluid level when I got home and it was 2" above the normal level, redish in color (not contaminated) but it did have air bubbles in the dipstick. After a few unpleasant phone calls to the radiator shop they swore they did not add any trans fuild, and agreed to change the fluid only. When I picked it up again they said they put it on a scanner and nothing trans related came up. Upon driving home I noticed it had the same problem only this time when I put it in reverse it kept going in and out of gear. I was told it might just need to be flushed, could this be the case? Any suggestion's before I take it to a transmission repair shop and pay some ungodly amount of money, its Christmas time, I need all the $$ I can get. Thanks in advance. maxwedge 12-03-2006, 09:58 AM Welcome to AF, more than likely this is an internal problem, it should be scanned by a trans shop with a special scanner for diagnosing trans issues, they can see if there are slippage, solenoid or internal pressure problems. Slim chance here the filter is restricted but if so it is from clutch material. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
