Engine Starting Problem88_DX_Hatch 09-16-2002, 10:18 PM I need some help diagnosing a starting problem w/ my 88 DX Hatch. Sometimes when I go on a short drive like 5-10 miles and shut off the car and go shopping lets say for like 5 min. when I come back out to the car it won't start. It will turn over just fine but it won't start. If I wait like 5 more minutes then it will fire right up. FYI I am getting a code 1 but I'm pretty sure that's just a bad O2 sensor. Any help would be great! Erik branman_crx_guy 09-16-2002, 10:25 PM I had a similar problem. It started out like u said, when i tried startin the car after it had been off for 5 min it wouldnt start, but if i waited it'd be fine. Then the problem changed, i eventually couldnt start it at all when it was hot out (aka: daytime) but it would start fine at night when it was cool. Long story short (not really), the problem i think u have is the main relay. U can either buy a new upgraded one, or do wat i did, take it out, open it up and resolder all the joints together. The directions here (http://www.crxsi.com/resources/repair/fixing_main_relay/) should tell u pretty much everything u need to know. Of course, it may not be ur main relay, but i'm 90% sure thats the problem. Good Luck! 88_DX_Hatch 09-16-2002, 10:30 PM Thanks for the help but one more question, you mentioned the upgraded one I can buy, how is it upgraded and where can I buy one? Erik gregc 09-17-2002, 10:08 AM I have a 89' Civic SI with probably the same problem.....would this apply to the SI also......also would be interested in the upgraded part....tks/greg gunnmen01 09-17-2002, 10:42 AM Try your local honda dealer, or just open it up and solder the one you have.Resoldered should work for quite awhile, look how long the first one lasted...... gunnmen01 branman_crx_guy 09-17-2002, 10:36 PM how is it upgraded and where can I buy one? Its "upgraded" just because they made a better one, one that wont get the same problem as the one u have now, not quite sure how that is, but i believe em. There pretty cheap too, i think only $40 from a Honda Dealer, it would probably be a lot less hassle than resoldering, which i wouldnt reccomend doin if u dont have practice with it (u car fry the hold relay if u screw up!). Anyways, thats how its better, good luck. :frog: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
