96 jeep cherokee towing package lights not workingholliday 11-26-2006, 02:31 PM I'm getting ready to move... got the pull along uhaul. when I attach it to the towing package, I only have parking lights on the trailer. I DO NOT have brake lights or turn signals on the trailer. Leads me to believe it's a fuse problem, but I HAVE NO IDEA, which fuse to inspect... can't find owner's manual.... ANY ASAP HELP? I leave tomorrow........... Ray H 11-26-2006, 03:08 PM If the lights on your Jeep work ok, its not a fuse. first off check the bulbs on the trailer. Its unlikely both bulbs would blow the turn and brake filiments at the same time, but its free to check them. Take some emery cloth, sandpaper or sctchbrite and clean the trailer connector off. Take a small srcewdriver or pick and scratch around inside the Jeep connector to make sure all the pins are getting contact. Thats also most likely not the problem, but again, its free to check. Take the trailer back to Uhaul and have them check that the trailer lights work on another vehicle and check to see if another trailer will work with your Jeep. They may also help you out by checking your plug with a multimeter to see if you have power to the brake and turn circuits. They shouldnt have let you leave with no brake or turn lights. I just went through this with mine, same syptoms. I ended up getting another converter box. XJs needed the box to adapt seperate turn/brake circuits into shared turn/brake circuits like trailers have. I think I paid about $26 for the box and T connector harness. Thats probably you next step if everything else checks out. If it is a bad converter box, Good luck finding one, I had to order mine. You could use a universal converter. Itll wok fine, just not as clean an installation. . holliday 01-20-2007, 07:54 PM Hey I forgot about this post I made... I found the owner's manual, found the fuse location - it WAS the fuse.
