Today I'm installing my new exhaust, but I cant get the old one off so I just want to cut it off. The only problem is the 02 sensors are rusted on and I cant get them off. What should I do?? Could I just cut the wire and cap the holes?? Please answere quickly b/c I want to put it on today.

No, you cannot cut the wires and cap the holes. You realize that the o2 sensors are what keeps it running correctly... What you could do if you can't get them out is cut the wires and wire in new o2 sensors instead.

yeah you def need the o2 sensors... else you will definately throw a cel.. It's possible to eliminate the back o2 sensor but you won't pass emissions then.

Ok..I'm just going to take it to a shop and have them deal w/ it because I dont have the tools to get it taken care of.

Spray it with some WD40 and let it sit for a few minutes. Then yank on it real good with the box end of a 19 wrench. I'm guessing it's a 19 I can't really remember but this really isn't that hard.

^^^^Ya, I tried that too. I even hung the wrench off it an hit it with a baseball bat a few times but it still didn't budge.

Um, you were swinging to the left right?:p

Could I also just cut all of it off and just get new o2 sensors?? Where would I get them b/c I would need both of them (o2 housing, and the one behind the cat.)

Well I would need to replace both...

The front one is pretty easy if you take the while o2 housing off at the same time you have alot more room to work and the rear you dont need but you will get a cel. Easiest way is with a torch

Autozone or Mitsu dealership.

:1: for some HEAT! use a propane (s/p) torch to heat the exhaust right at the o2 bug.. then loosen that bitch! EASY AS... well, taking out an o2 sensor... :2cents:

Alright...I'll give that a try some time tomorrow.

02 sensors suck. I've had that problem twice, I simulated narrowband operations with my wideband so didn't have to do it agian. I lost about 20% fuel economy. Im at 260-270 miles to the tank 70% city 30% freeway. The average I was getting with my old o2's were around 330-340miles to the tank.

Even with the 22mm and a 2 foot pipe I striped the o2 sensor. I eventually had to take the o2 housing off with the o2 still inside the housing to get the bitch off..

Why are you taking the front o2 off? Unless you're chaning the exhaust manifold or o2 housing you don't need to touch that o2.

I'm putting a new o2 housing on. My o2 sensors might be bad anyway if you said 260-270mi per tank is bad....I dont think I've ever gotten more than 250mi on a full tank.

Whenever you get that little bugger out coat the new one with anti-seize so this will never happen again.

Man you should be able to get that o2 sensor out. My car spent all of its life up in illinois and virginia before i got it to SC. The exhaust was all rusted out but i was still able to get the sensor out behind the cat by putting the wrench on and kicking it. The one on the o2 housing was a bitch too but i still got it off with just a wrench and some wd40. Even running straight exhaust with no cat my second o2 sensor is hooked in to the exhaust and i havent had a cel from it.

Ya, I couldn't believe it wouldn't come off either. I used WD40 and even hit the bolt, with a wrench hanging off of it, with a baseball bat 4 times. Whenever I bought the car it came with some kind of cat-back so I hope the previous owner didn't put something on the bolt. I'm going to try and get it off again soon.

i got a cel from running with no cat, and cleared it... keeps coming back... :banghead: hope i can over-ride it with DSMlink or somthing:naughty:

You should be able to override it with dsmlink.

dsmlink can over ride the o2 sensor. i learned something new today. what else can elimnate this sensor other than dsmlink...or is dsmlink the only way?

Well after long await I finally got the exhaust on but I had to take it to a shop which turned out to be more expensive than I thought...$300 w/ icluded a new o2 sensor but my parents paid for half anyway...it sounds so much better than the old cat back that was on the car. It sounds about the same at idle and low rpm, but when you step on it it really sounds good. The only problem is when I got home (about 5min ago) it smelled like something was burning so I popped the hood and a bunch of steam/vapor came out but that may have been b/c it's like 20F here. They also didnt put the heat sheild back on the o2 housing...

thats just new metal... its going to smell... also the smoke is probably from some WD-40 or PB-Blaster :2cents: congrats on getting it apart!

Yeah, next time, heat the bung with a torch, or run the piss out of the car to heat the exhaust. If that doesn't work heat it and then pour a little ice cold water on the 02 sensor and it should break free.

:screwy:

An o2 sensor socket wont work because the o2 sensors on out cars have pigtails... what you DO NOT want to unplug it unless you feel like taking the driver seat out... especially with doing something as simple as an exhaust... :2cents:
