Transmission does not going into any gear!!!

Hey guys i need some help my jeep does not go into any gear. i mean when i press the break the bar just slides up and down with out going or stopping in any gear. Any help would be awesome.

Did this problem suddenly occur?
Sounds like somthing on the shift linkage came loose. See if you can hear (or see) if the shifter is actually shifting down at the transmission. You might have to get sombody to pull the shifter up and down as another lays under it to look. If you do this be extra careful, make sure the brakes are locked up tight, you have blocks by the wheels to keep the vehicle from crushing you and dont do it with the engine running.
If moving the shifter up and down doesnt make the transmission linkage move it can be somthing simple as a loose bolt or nut on the shift linkage, or even a nut could be loose inside the transmission.
