Jus wondering if anyone would know Which of the Two (redtop or Blacktop) Sr20s respond best to aftermarket modifications (ie:more boost, internal mods, etc...) I know that the Blacktops have Variable valve timing.
Also...due to the variable valve timing, which of the 2 gens of motor, has more aftermarket parts available, and which one is more expensive to modify?..If someone could help me out, I have always been curious about this.. THANKS IN ADVANCE!.:D

You got it all wrong buddy...

The Redtop and Blacktop you are talking about are TWO different engines...

The only contemperaneous ones are the Redtop and Blacktop S13...those are IDENTICAL...except the blacktop's are newer.

The S14 and S15 are the ones w/variable timing and they carry T28's instead of T25's like the S13 SR's did...

More expensive to mod...I guess the S15 would since it is the newest one...and then it goes down from there...S14 next most expensive then S13...course the gap between S15 price mods and S14 priced mods is significant...but the S14 and S13 prices shouldnt be that big...just slightly more expensive for an S14...

S13 SR: 202HP stock (205ps)
S14 SR: 218HP stock (220ps)
S15 SR: 247HP stock (250ps)

Thanks, but how about the Parts availability from Aftermarket Comapanys....and how do the Diffrent motors respond to modifications?... ie: S13 Redtop/Blacktop vs S14 Blacktop ??

another thing... If wanting to do some extreme mods (big HP) on the S14 (or S15 for that matter) blacktops, will the Varible valve timing need to be removed (or better for it to)

Thanks in Advance

They all respond well...just depends on how much you got really and want to spend...your limit is your budget.

You shouldnt and probably couldnt remove the variable valve timing on the S14/S15 w/o seriously changing the engine for the worse...so leave it on...it helps.
