Buick and Pontiac declining brands.. but why?

I’m a college student doing a report on the decline of both Pontiac and Buick. Just wondered if anyone had some opinions on why both of these divisions of GM are hurting in sales. Also, what do you think can be done to save these brands from entering the automotive graveyard? Where have these divisions gone wrong? Was it there marketing strategies or car design?

Would help a lot to have some opinions, and talk about our beloved automotive company.

Personally I note the decline in quality and durability..

An example is the moulding.
Tim in the car used to be screwed on and sturdy.
Now if you or your kid whacks a moulding a little wrong the plastic tabs break off and the moulding falls off and is expensive and difficult to replace..
Sure its easy and fast to assemble a sellers advantage, but fragile and no longer sturdy, an owners problem.
