Any D-series will swap over with little to no extra work. Mostly it will just be different wiring for some parts, depending on the year of the engine. Any '92-'95 D-series will swap in with only having to wire up vtec. Any '96-'00 D-series (D16Y7, D16Y8) will bolt up with some other minor changes to the wiring (use existing '93 wiring harness, swap over the voltage regulators in the alternators so that they are the same plug, and swapping over some pins of the distributor plugs). But it also depends on what ECU you're going to be using, you should try to use a '92-'95 ecu if at all possible. Other wise you'll need to buy a conversion harness so you can plug in a newer ecu. '92-'95 has different plugs than the '96-'98 and '99-'00, and the '99-'00 shares the same plugs as the '96-'98 but the wires are different from pin to pin.
The F-series engines are completely different and require the use of a mount kit (h-series and F-series mount kit), which costs around $350-450 for the mounts alone.

Same transmission, mounts, axles, shiftlinkage. You should only need the engine, and an ecu that will run it (vtec ecu for a vtec engine, non-vtec for non-vtec).

save for a B series....its probably the best way to go, although the D15b is kind of a fun little engine....we put one in my little brother's 98 Civic EX
