327 in '82 Elky

i've got a 1964 327 out of a Impala of same year-will it fit in my '82?it currently has the 229 V6 in it with 200 tranny.what swaps or mods would i have to do and who makes headers for this motor/car combo? what do i do with my ECU since it wouldn't be needed?

If it's an original year 1964 327, with heads the same, it will require the use of old brackets for accessory mounting as the SB up to the late '68 model year didn't have the bolt holes on the heads for accessory mounting. It will work, but you will need to replace the trans with a beefier unit.

1978-up A/G body headers will fit.

so,does anyone make the bracket that would do the changeover for the accessories?i'm sure i could fab what i need,but sometimes i'd just rather take the easy way out and spend my time on something a little more complicated.time is precious nowadays.

Just tie the wires back so they dont get stuck in your throttle, or burn against the exhaust. Other than that pull any computer related fuses or relays.

The early style brackets are suprisingly simple, and can be had really cheap at a junk yard.

Your other option is to put some decent heads on the 327, such as '416s or similar. They'll flow better, have smaller chambers for better compression, and have the holes you need to mount the accessories. They, too, can be found cheaply in many junk yards.

so,is the casting #s on the head between exhaust ports?been out of domestic cars for awhile-please excuse the ignorance......

The casting number is a 6-8 digit (usually a 7-digit) number under the valve cover. It can be between valve springs or anywhere under the valve cover.

The castings themselves are usually referred to by the last 3 digits of the casting number (i.e. '492 is 3991492).
