Help,

My wifes mail jeep is acting up. 1992 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyclinder 220,000+ miles. The jeep was running great then all the sudden she told me it wont accelerate. When I drove it back to the house it ran fine. I have replaced the fuel filter, filled up with good gas and added a fuel additive. The spark plugs and wires were change last spring. On the way to the gas station to add fuel it stalled and hesitated and back fired on acceleration then it acted like the engine wasn't even running. After adding gas it ran great then today it started acting up with the same symptoms. It now is progressively worse it is idling rough now and my wife said when she stopped at a mail box it leaped forward. Any help on diagnosing or fixing would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

TPS (throttle position sensor) or spark plugs (did you use Champions?).
Uh..that where I would check 1st.

Will check the TPS and fuel pressure tomorrow. I am not sure what spark plugs I put in her car.

Thanks,

Replaced the TPS. What sort of sucks is the problem is intermittent. "Ol Bettsy" ran well for several days then the acceleration problem continued. As my wife finished up her mail route the problem "fixed" itself. Anyone know of any other areas to look at? I was going to replace the O2 sensors and Mass Air Flow but the check engine light does not come on and I hate to just keep throwing new parts on the jeep.

Thanks

Chris
