i was messing around in some sand yesterday in 4-lo and backed out of a tight spot which caused me to turn my wheels all the way to the left. there was a loud pop followed by much grinding from my front/left wheel well and much :crying: from me. what is this called? 1/2 shaft? c/v axle? i havent pulled the wheel off yet, but what possible causes would make it slip out of place like this, and how much trouble will it be to fix?

Yep busted cv-shaft and the connecting link for the front swaybar. It may be the pic but sure looks like more stuff is bent as well. I would guess i you did the job less than 400 bucks. If the dealer does it...OUCH!

also is there anything else i should look at that might have been damaged?

Pretty sure that 1996 was the first year of 4 wheel anti lock for 4x4s.

Anyone know for sure? If there is a set of wires going to each front wheel, then you have 4 wheel anti lock.
